Lake Mac Libraries helping to uncover, capture and share the stories of Lake Macquarie | 19 - 28 Nov

Running from Friday 19th – Sunday 28th November History Illuminated, presented by Lake Mac Libraries, explores how histories can strengthen the way we connect, learn from one another and share our lived experiences across our communities.

Focusing on the importance of uncovering, capturing and sharing histories of people, place and environment, the Festival program features an impressive line up of workshops, presentations and exhibitions that feature local, national, and international historical facts and fiction, research, art and writing.

An evening with General Sir Peter Cosgrove

Join Australia’s former Governor General, General Sir Peter Cosgrove for an insightful evening into his extraordinarily full and eventful life, as he shares stories, thoughts and anecdotes from his book ‘You shouldn’t have joined.’

Documentary Screening: GURRUMUL

Indigenous artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu was one of the most important and acclaimed voices to ever come out of Australia. Blind from birth, he found purpose and meaning through songs and music inspired by his community and country on Elcho Island in far North East Arnhem Land. Living a traditional Yolngu life, his breakthrough album 'Gurrumul' brought him to a crossroads as audiences and artists around the world began to embrace his music.

It's a Long Way - Oz Rock in Words and Pictures

Philip Morris is a legendary Australian music photographer; Jeff Apter has written 25 books about Australian music and musicians, his latest book is Bad Boy Boogie: The true story of AC/DC legend Bon Scott. Together they discuss Philip's photos of such icons as AC/DC, Vanda and Young, John Paul Young, the Angels and Midnight Oil, and the stories behind those images.

Convict-Era Port Arthurs – Misery of the Deepest Dye

Academic and author David W. Cameron will be in conversation with Jamie Lewis discussing his new book exploring the development of Port Arthur prison and, using the experiences and words of the convicts, soldiers and administrators who spent time there.
