Newcastle West’s very own stationery shop
Tucked away in Newcastle’s West End lies a beautiful treasure trove of stationery, art, and literature – a haven where creativity flourishes and imagination has no bounds.
Introducing Paper Caravan.
The newly opened stationery and bookstore is the brainchild of Susanna Harrison – a proud Novocastrian and published illustrator with a passion for design, illustration, and the art of storytelling.
“When I think about Paper Caravan, it’s about bringing together my love for stationery and illustration and creating something truly unique. This shop is an extension of my own Paper Caravan brand, with the added joy of showcasing other talented illustrators, along with a curated selection of books, papers, and goodies,” Susanna said.
The journey towards launching Paper Caravan was a culmination of years of creative exploration and a deep-seated love for all things paper.
“After years of working in different areas of design, including advertising and textile design, I found my calling in Illustration. The idea of Paper Caravan had been brewing in my mind for quite some time, and it all came together when I decided to combine my studio space with a creative shop that I would personally love to visit.”
Situated just off Hunter Street, next to LEDA Gallery and a short skip from Chiefly West, the Paper Caravan doors officially swung open on March 18 and the shop has already become a beloved spot for inner-city workers.
“Our shop is a cosy and welcoming space filled with beautifully illustrated cards, prints, and a curated selection of books for all ages. We also have a range of vintage papers, unique stationery, and art supplies that I personally use and love.”
The space itself feels like a spot you’d likely find on the high streets in London, complete with a fun window display, beautifully crafted shelving, and a centre table featuring a range of books you didn’t know you needed.
The name, Paper Caravan, is a nod to Susanna’s love for paper goods and the imagery of a travelling market filled with beautiful wares. Looking ahead, she has big plans for the brand and the space, including expanding the product line and hosting craft and art classes to bring Newcastle’s creative community together.
Paper Caravan is more than just a shop, it’s a place where stories come to life, where creativity is nurtured, and where everyone is invited to come in, say hi, and embark on a journey of discovery and artistic inspiration.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist, a bookworm, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of finely crafted stationery, a visit to Paper Caravan in Newcastle’s West End promises to be a delightful experience filled with warmth, creativity, and endless possibilities.
