Sculptures @ Scratchley

The Newcastle sculptural exhibition will be back in May 2024

Following the highly successful 2023 exhibition with over 25,000 visitors, Sculptures at Scratchley event organisers, Grahame Wilson and Rebecca Murray, have announced that the exhibition will be back in 2024. Newcastle creative agency, Out Of The Square Media, has come on board as the event's major partner.

“Together, we’d like to grow this event into a national and international attraction that highlights artists and this amazing city,” Grahame said.

Offering one of Newcastle’s most spectacular vantage points, Fort Scratchley acts as the perfect backdrop for the Sculptures @ Scratchley exhibition.

Brought to you by Lake Macquarie-based artists, Grahame Wilson and Rebecca Murray, the Sculptures @ Scratchley exhibit opened over Mother’s Day weekend and ran until the 28 May, 2023.

The concept, having been born through the council’s funding application was knocked back in late last year before being finessed, funded, and organised by Grahame himself in early 2023.

“This happened because of a failed submission, and it’s really been a bit of a springboard for us to get this happening,” Grahame shared.

Curating a line-up of over 60 installations from 33 artists, Sculptures @ Scratchley is offering a unique outdoor walk-through exhibition that offers the public the opportunity to nominate a sculpture for the People’s Choice Award, as well as go in the draw to win a sculpture of their own (made by Grahame himself).

Visitors can drop into Fort Scratchley during usual open hours (Wed-Mon, 10am-4pm), and wander around the sculpture walk. Get involved and purchase a catalogue where you can vote for your favourite sculptures and give one lucky artist the opportunity to win the people’s choice award.

“You’ll get the chance to vote for three different sculptures, so you’ll really have to think about where you want your votes to go.”
