Wanting to impress visitors from out of town? Here' s our hitlist
Whilst there are plenty of new kids on the block, here’s our hit list of classic dining institutions when it comes to amazing dining experiences in Newcastle!
Impress out of towners with Newcastle’s most delightfully unassuming dining venues, Subo. This perennially popular hatted restaurant is a foodie’s paradise!
It could have been very easy for Subo to become another fine dining restaurant with owners Beau and Suzie drawing on their years of experience of working in such prestigious restaurants as Tetsuya’s, Assiette, Claude’s, Centonove and Guillaume of Bennelong in Melbourne and Sydney. Instead, they fused together an intimate, 35 seats only, casual dining space that guests feel they can relax in with exquisite food. There are no Sommeliers or sirs and madams here, in Suzie and Beau's own words, "Subo is a casual modern bistro, with a bit of an edge". A truly unique Newcastle dining experience.
Next on our list is Restaurant Mason in the historic East End, impress your visitors with a menu that is predominately influenced by modern French and British flavours, with just a touch of Asian. Owner and Head Chef Chris Thornton says what he enjoys most is creating dishes that that his guests will love, it’s all about eating some cool things and having a bit of fun. And the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide agree with Restaurant Mason being awarded a Chef’s Hat each year since 2011.
