Discover the vintage coffee caravan in Adamstown’s backstreets
Situated over in the back streets of Adamstown, sits a little hidden gem that started as a lockdown saviour for locals and has now cemented its position in the community with its food, coffee, wholesome, friendly, and welcoming vibes. To whom are we referring? Wild Vine Coffee!
The vintage 1967 franklin coffee van was launched in the heart of covid lockdowns back in April 2020 by the ever-so-bubbly couple, Luke and Katie. Luke a born and bred Novocastrian, and Katie originally from the Central Coast makes for Wild Vine Coffee to be a local business backed by locals themselves.

“I was teaching yoga here at Infuse Health for a few years and Katie came along to a class and the rest is kind of history.
“The community and the members of the gym were really good here, but there wasn’t a space to really engage afterward, so we thought we could do a coffee van and service both the customers of the gym and a few of the surrounding businesses. It kind of escalated pretty quickly into Wild Vine and it has just exploded,” Luke said.
Perfectly integrated into the local area, Wild Vine Coffee has built a loyal following from regular gym-goers from next door at Infuse Health, employees from surrounding local businesses, and of course, the coffee-crazed residents!
“It’s a niche little area. You have that business demographic, and you have that residential demographic as well and it just entwines really nicely.”
Originally starting with just their coffee offering, the business has grown to become so much more including some of the tastiest toasties on offer across all of Newcastle, take-home cold brew packs, branded merch, unique product offerings, and the only spot in Newcastle to serve coffee from Melbourne-based coffee roasters, Padre Coffee.
With coffee at the business' core, you can sit down to enjoy a cup of joe from Wild Vine knowing that each and every pour is going to be absolutely ace. Whether your order is a batch brew, espresso, cold brew, or iced coffee; the team have you sorted.
Moving into the warmer months and having only recently launched their cold brew bundle packs, it’s the perfect time to enjoy some of the best cold brews at home. What’s included? You’ll get a 500ml cold brew concentrate from Padre Coffee, alternative milk of your choice (almond, soy, oat), two glass cups, and a small pack of dried blood oranges to serve.
“We brew up large batches of the cold brew. The cool thing is that it’s a concentrate, so we get four or five servings out of it which is great. Once you’ve finished, you can bring it back and get $3 off of your next one.”
Onto those heartier foodie options, as mentioned, you can get your hands on some of the tastiest toasties available in Newcastle right here at Wild Vine Coffee. With five distinct flavours to choose from, there’s a flavour option suitable for everyone.
“We started the OG toastie, the Vego Greens which has halloumi, green pickled relish, maasdam cheese, and a house-made slaw which includes broccoli, cabbage, and a special dressing which is a mix of garlic, apple cider vinegar, salt, olive oil, and fresh lemon and its zest. Katie nailed that one the first go.”
Other flavours include the Wild Relish Toastie which comes complete with grilled eggplant, halloumi, sauerkraut, chimichurri, and tomato relish; Ham Cheese Toastie with classic leg ham, Maasdam cheese, and tomato chutney; Double Cheese Toastie with Maasdam cheese, halloumi, and pickled relish; and the Cheeseymite Toastie with vegemite, and Maasdam cheese (perfect for the little ones).
Still peckish? The cosy space also boasts a selection of light bites and treats including sourdough toast with a selection of spreads, ham & cheese croissants, banana bread, vegan cookies, and a delicious offering of baked goods! If you're in need of Gluten Free goods, rest assured because the Wild Vine Coffee team have you sorted with GF options for not just the baked goods, but for their divine toasties too.
In addition to their food and drink offering, Wild Vine Coffee also stocks a simple collection of products that align with the business' philosophy which are available to purchase. From the beautifully unique ceramics by local ceramicist Fancy Nancy, spiced cacao chai powder by hummble, and their very own merchandise line.
The branded designs have been created by the ever-so-talented local graphic designer Lana of Salty Design Studios and are perfect for the batch-brew lover with their iconic character, Batchy McBatch Face featuring.
The name, Wild Vine, is a bit of a nod to the interior of Infuse Health which is a green-thumbs dream, whilst also reflecting the couples’ love for plants and the oasis which they have created here themselves.
“The gym is super green, and we love greenery! After all, we are in a car park with lots of concrete and old tin sheds. So, we thought keeping with the demographic and reflecting the inside of Infuse, we wanted to make the space something nice and welcoming.”
At its core, Wild Vine Coffee is all about connecting with, supporting, and being of service to the local community. With regulars popping in on the daily, and friendships being born over a coffee at Wild Vine Coffee, there’s so much to celebrate about this local coffee van.
“It’s nice to see people come here and interact with each other then a few weeks later they might return together for a coffee. There have been so many of those genuine connections that come from meeting here; it’s just so nice.”
Luke and Katie have some exciting plans in the works for their Wild Vine, and whilst we can’t share too much, we can say that the warmer months might just see a night pop-up come to the Adamstown space and the design to receive a slight refresh – watch this space!
