Personally curating the spaces we inhabit has become a huge thing in recent years. We’re no longer just getting the cookie cutter flat packs for every corner of the home, and whilst flatpacks still have their place, it’s the dedication to certain pieces for the home that is elevating our living experience.

Newcastle-based couple, Joel and Jacquie, both originally hailing from country NSW believe strongly in this philosophy and in May 2020, the duo launched their own brand of natural stone furniture and homewares; Unrivalled Interiors.

“Living in a world where mass production is rampant, we value the importance of creating products that are sustainable and can be enjoyed beyond one generation,” Jacquie shared.

Joel, having grown up in Dubbo has worked in numerous trades following school, and whilst studying Teaching at University, he really unearthed his love for creating and building. And Jacquie, originally from Armidale, draws inspiration from the simple minimalist lifestyle from country life. Following the purchase of their own home, the recently engaged couple enjoyed curating the spaces around the house and soon saw an opportunity to create their own business.

“When getting furniture for our home we took the time in slowly curating pieces that we felt could keep forever. I had seen special pieces of furniture being passed down from my grandparents and great grandparents within my family and I loved having pieces in our home that came with a history and a story.

“We didn’t want to fall into the trap of mass consumption buying pieces that date quickly, that break easily and are not of high quality. I wanted our home to be filled with pieces that we could one day pass on to our children and grandchildren.”

Launching the brand in May last year, Unrivalled has received an unrivalled response with family, friends, and people all across the country falling in love with the couple’s products. Since the business’ inception, Unrivalled has launched two Chapters (collections) with plans to launch more products as time goes on.

Currently, you can explore a unique range of Unrivalled designs including four side tables, two coffee tables, candlestick holders, bookends, trays, display pieces, vases, business card holders, wine holders, plant stands, as well as discussing the creation of custom pieces.

The name, Unrivalled, defines itself as having no rival, being incomparable, which after one browse over their exquisite pieces, you can’t disagree.

As a small batch company, each piece available is made by the hands of Joel himself without the need of factories or machines, truly bringing the Unrivalled experience back to basics.

“By creating simplistic, minimalistic pieces with a high quality we are promoting the lost art of passing on special pieces from your home to someone special.”

The mantra behind the business is to bring the outdoors, indoors, which is why Unrivalled are big lovers of natural stone. The sturdy and high-quality material adds to the intent of pieces lasting more than a lifetime.

“We think that there is nothing more beautiful than what nature has to offer which is why our natural stone is our material of choice… we also love the unique patterns in each piece, making no two pieces the same.”

In addition to this, each and every Unrivalled furniture piece pays homage to the special women in their lives.

“Each of our furniture items are named after women in our life. We love sharing a part of our story with each piece by dedicating pieces to women who have impacted our lives. There is something special about bringing home a piece with a story.”

Joel and Jacquie are excited to continue growing the Unrivalled Chapters and connecting with like-minded businesses for wholesale and customers keen to make an impact in their own homes.

“Our focus right now is expanding into new and different stones. We love travertine, but I am also a big fan of colour so we are currently looking at sourcing different stones to offer our clients. We are working on Chapter III which is going to be bigger and better than ever. We have had so much fun designing new products for our next launch.”
