The online vintage store taking up residency in Wickham's busiest street
Sunshine Dreamer, Newcastle’s online vintage destination has officially opened Sunshine Shop, their first-ever retail storefront in Wickham just earlier this month. Located next door to the recently renovated Dark Horse Wickham and House of Lita, the fresh storefront looks right at home in their new community.
Starting her online brand five years ago, Ashleigh Wright kicked her business into high gear throughout lockdown, working overtime to source high-quality products for her passion project. From content creation and marketing, all the way to running the store’s online page and new retail space, the business is a one-woman show.
“It’s always been a dream of mine, I’ve worked in retail when I was younger. I’ve done quite a few pop-ups and they’ve all had massive line-ups of people.
“I just felt like there was a need for a really good vintage store in Newcastle,” Ashleigh shared, when asked about her decision to expand from online.
Sourcing items globally, the stock range aims to be as inclusive and diverse as possible. With an assortment of sizes and styles, the brand aims to provide genderless fashion for all bodies.
Stocking a range of one-off pieces, Ash has sourced items from all over including Europe, America, and even Thailand. Pre-covid, Ashleigh would personally travel to quality test and find items to stock on the website, however, the lockdown has led to finding alternatives until travel restrictions are lifted.
Providing opportunities for local businesses and creators to get involved, the store will be stocking an assortment of locally sourced products. Businesses including Kassy King Art, Gem Ceramics, Angels and Outcasts, and Melton Moments are all being showcased in-store.
With plans to run pop-ups for other local businesses, Ash hopes to provide opportunities for businesses to get their name out and collaborate with the space.
“I know, when I was first starting out, I would have loved to have a rack of clothing in someone's store, but for me back then, like there wasn't really any stores that were my sort of style that I would feel confident approaching to have myself. I feel like there's a lot of brands in Newcastle that could feel like they could approach this space to have that.”
The large, airy open planned layout provides a welcoming and aesthetic space for shoppers, from the comfortable changeroom seating to meticulously picked greenery filling corners, you can see the thought and care put into every inch of the store.
Opening their doors Thursday 4th of November, Sunshine Store will operate Thursday through to Sunday for anyone hoping to find unique pieces for their wardrobe or get some Christmas gifts crossed off their list early.
