Just last week we asked those of you on Instagram just where your go-to spot for Fish 'n' chips were across Newcastle. Well… the votes are in!

Scotties Seafood & Bar 

Coming in at number one by an absolute landslide is none other than the Newcastle East spot, Scotties Seafood & Bar. Scotties has long been a favourite for its fresh and sustainable seafood menu and quirky events. Being just moments from Newcastle Beach it’s not hard to understand why it topped the list.

Glebe Takeaway

This one has been serving up their iconic fish and chips (alongside other hot food goods) for years at their Glebe Road venue, so once more, we’re not at all surprised to see it close to the top of the list.

Steel St Fish Market 

Sitting within the Woolworths side of Marketown is none other than the always busy Steel St Fish Market. Stocking a huge range of cooked and raw seafood, the local fish market also has some great value fish and chips, popular for office lunches or a quick bite on the go.

The Kiosk at Newcastle Beach

Hilltop Fish 'n' Chips

Located right off the beaten track and hidden in the Lake Mac suburb of Kahibah sits Hilltop Fish 'n' Chips. The perfect spot for those exploring Glenrock for the day or for locals dropping in for the summer fish and chip fix.

Nothing but quality seafood at this harbourside venue in Honeysuckle. With owner Garry running his own fish and chip shop on the Central Coast for 13 years, you know whatever comes out of The Kingfish kitchen is going to be top quality.

Andy’s Fish & Chip Shop

Right in the heart of New Lambton sits the old school Fish & Chip shop that is Andy’s. Complete with the old school signage and the friendliest of staff, a feed at Andy’s is sure not to disappoint.

Lucky 7 Supermarket 

Sandwiches, burgers, milkshakes, chips, fish, scallops and even seafood baskets – Lucky 7 Supermarket in Kotara is one of those hidden gems that once you try, you’ll be one of their regulars!

Splash Seafood

Another oldie but a goodie, Splash Seafood on the main road in Mayfield is home to some good old fashioned interiors and bloody good Aussie fish and chips.

What else do you feel like other than fish and chips after a long summer’s morning by the beach? Nothing! It’s hard to beat places like Swell at Nobby’s Beach whose takeaway food joint sits right on the shores of the beach.

Vinny’s Takeaway Georgetown

If you live in Georgetown, there’s no way you’ve missed this place. Complete with some bright exteriors, Vinny’s Takeaway has a menu full of all the best takeaway cravings you might have. From Chiko rolls and pineapple fritters to fish and chip meal deals and burgers galore; they’ve got it all!

Fresh Start Takeaway

Quite the skip, jump and hop away from town is Lake Macquarie takeaway joint, Fresh Start. Located in Boolaroo, the venue is home to burgers that pack a punch, scrumptious fish and chips and even a range of delicious ice-cream!

And of course, a fish and chip list to Newcastle wouldn’t be complete without the seafood institution that is Scratchleys being included. Whilst it might be known for their sit-down menu, the takeaway window is where it’s at for traditional fish and chips. Finish it all off with a cone (or cup) of Everest ice cream!
