Dumpling Bar
Situated out on Charlestown Square’s South Piazza, Dumpling Bar is a cosy Mandarin restaurant that boasts what could be one of the biggest selections of dumplings and dim sums in the region.

Eight Buns
Eight Buns has built a reputation for itself as one of the best spots for dumplings in Hamilton. There are plenty of dumplings and buns to choose from, so you're spoilt for choice.

Ginger Meg's
Dining at Ginger Meg's is an adventure for the senses, from the decor to the tasty Pan-Asian menu. Kai Fan is a go-to for authentic Chinese food and has a venue on the Coles side of Marketown. Lee's Kitchen is a low-key Chinese takeaway joint with several locations across Newcastle. There's an array of dumplings on offer on its menu – expect xiao long bao, prawn and pork wontons with peanut and sesame sauce, and pot sticker pan-fried pork dumplings, plus other dim sum favourites like spring onion pancakes to pair with them.

Lee's Yum Cha is all the flavours you love from Lee's Kitchen, but with a focus on yum cha. With 60 types of dim sum on the menu and a trolley service, dining at Lee's Yum Cha is always an immersive and delicious experience. There are so many dumplings to choose from – trust us, deciding what to order from the huge menu is always a difficult task! Order plenty of things to try, and roll out of the restaurant very full and happy.

Light Years Asian Diner
Created from a desire to bring a fun, modern Asian dining experience to the east coast of Australia, Light Years Asian Diner boasts a menu full of bold, colourful, and punchy flavours. The dumpling offering may be minimal, but they always hit the spot. The wild truffled mushroom dumplings are an excellent vegetarian options, while other flavours like prawn and ginger, or lemongrass chicken dumplings are a must try.

One of Newcastle's most loved pop-up restaurants took things to a more permanent level in 2025. Sukimama, the beloved Korean street food venture led by Suki, launched a hole-in-the-wall-style eatery, offering a compact but flavour-packed menu of handmade favourites, among which are Korean dumplings, otherwise known as mandu. The flavours change up each week, but you can always expect a vegan option on offer, plus flavours like chicken and garlic chive.

King Street’s recently renovated Japanese restaurant, Susuru, featured a bunch of pan-fried steamed dumplings, sui-gyoza, and deep-fried dumplings.
