The new Darby St venue is officially opened as of tonight!
If you’ve been along the North end of Darby St over the past few months, you may have noticed some construction happening behind a big pink façade in the old Maverick’s spot. Yep, Light Years Asian Diner has set up along one of Newcastle’s go-to dining strips and we can confirm it packs a punch.
With Creative Director Kim Stephen, Executive Chef Robbie Oijvall, and Managing Director James Sutherland, at the helm, Light Years Asian Diner officially opens up their doors to the people of Newcastle as of tonight, 15th December!
Since its inception in 2017, the Asian diner has since opened a further two venues, Noosa, and Burleigh Heads, making Newcastle venue no.4 along our country’s beautiful East coast.
Ever heard of Light Years Asian Diner? If you’ve yet to stumble into one of the lush tropical-themed venues up our east coast, let us take you on a little journey so you know exactly what you’re in for.
Awesome modern Asian food, delicious cocktails, and a ‘jump out of your seat’ party vibe is at the core of all things Light Years Asian Diner.
“Rounding out the full experience – the soundtrack is fun, the lights are dim, and the vibes are always high.”
Each menu is spearheaded by Executive Chef Robbie Oijvall to create food that is bold, colourful and full of punchy flavour. Expect a collection of share-plate-style food, each with its own unique flavour.
Our picks include standout dishes like the Kingfish Ceviche complete with coconut, chilli, and Kaffir lime; the Cumin Spiced Fried Cauliflower with strange flavour sauce, coconut, dill, mint, crunchy things, and peanuts; and to finish, Vanilla & Coconut Sago with Thai basil strawberries, white chocolate, meringue, raspberry sherbet, and lemon balm.
Ensure to make the most of the venue's cocktail offering and taste test all the delightfully curated drinks. Our number one pick? The Lola Paloma featuring chilli infused tequila, campari, watermelon, lime, and grapefruit!
The vibrant and whimsical space has been created alongside some incredibly talented local businesses including Something More Design, Newcastle Kitchen Magic, and Chapman Upholstery.
The 150-180 downstairs seating space will feature lots of colour and plenty of wow factor. Think a muted pastel palette, central palm trees, unique and individual seating arrangement, superb crazy marble flooring, a strong curve theme and so much more.
