Whilst Newcastle and its surrounding suburbs have it mostly covered when it comes to tastes from around the globe, it has always been that elusive Yum Cha dining experience that we have hungered for.

That is until Hong Kong Chef arrived!

The Rooftop at Westfield Kotara is where you’ll need to head to experience all those delicious Yum Cha flavours, and we couldn’t get there quick enough! With Yum Cha literally translating into 'drink tea and eat Dim Sum' in Cantonese Chinese, Dim Sum is what you get on a visit Hong Kong Chef.

The menu is extensive to say the least with more than 150 handmade dim sims, dumplings, rice rolls, soups, and Hong Kong BBQ dishes to choose from. The team have ensured that all those Yum Cha favourites have made it to the menu, along with a selection of your slightly more traditional style dishes, like the Pork Belly with Sweet Ferment Rice.

When ordering one thing to note, each of the dishes are substantial so be sure to bring your appetite with you if you’re wanting to sample more than just a couple of dishes, or if you’re like us and find it hard to go past the Peking Duck, several visits are going to be necessary.

It would also be amiss of us not to mention the space and design of Hong Kong Chef, with much thought being put into every corner. From the spectacular Asian inspired motif that catches the eye instantly on arrival, to the bright neon lights that beautifully complement the traditional Chinese lanterns.
