Situated right in the heart of Newcastle’s East End Village development is a delightfully fresh boutique by the name of Wilson & Hunter.

Owner, Jo Wilson, alongside her daughter, Caitlin Wilson managing the Newcastle CBD boutique makes for Wilson & Hunter to be a true family business.

Having already built a strong reputation with their Hunter Valley-based bricks and mortar store which was established in 2003 sees Newcastle land itself a hint of sophistication with the arrival of the brand’s new space.

With a strong background in fashion, some of you may remember Jo’s first foray into the boutique world with JoJo Boutique in The Junction back in the 90s.

“At the time, it was one of the leading boutiques in Newcastle stocking iconic Australian labels Lisa Ho, Zimmerman, and Camilla, among others. The JoJo philosophy was founded in offering a style that is exciting but wearable, and open to all ages – that philosophy has carried over to Wilson & Hunter and is the foundation of the store’s philosophy today.

“We have kept the store fresh, by passing on the buying and day-to-day management role to Caitlin, who is the same age now that I was when I opened JoJo Boutique - there is a nice symmetry to that,” Jo shared.

Come 2003, an opportunity arose for Jo to open up a fresh boutique in the Hunter Valley. As a long-time lover of our local wine country, joining the Hunter Valley Gardens development and securing a retail space in the village was a no-brainer.

“Wilson & Hunter was launched and quickly became a phenomenally successful business – so much so that I decided to sell JoJo boutique to concentrate solely on the Hunter Valley business.”

Just under twenty years later, Jo has officially returned to Newcastle as part of a mother-and-daughter team. The Hunter Street boutique originally launched as a pop-up space in September. The new store on the corner of Hunter and Wolfe St launched in late October 2022.

“The revitalisation of the city centre is an exciting opportunity; Wilson & Hunter is thrilled to be in one of the prime locations in the city and we cannot wait to be part of the renaissance of Hunter St and surrounds.”

Stepping into the fresh new space, you can sense a touch of approachable elegance. From the beautifully styled interiors to every last piece on display; Wilson & Hunter offers a shopping experience unlike any other in town.

Looking throughout the clothing offering, you can explore an expansive range of both established and emerging brands making for a never-boring and always-rotating shopping trip. Current brands available include Alemais, Alessandra, Bec and Bridge, Blanca, Devotion Twins, Layer/d, Nude Lucy, Alias Mae, Silk Laundry, Up! Pants, The Upside, and local children’s wear brand East Axe.

Moving into the sunglass department, one of which Wilson & Hunter has a wonderfully stocked range including designer brands like Gucci, YSL, Balenciaga, and Karen Walker, as well as younger brands like Bresac and Oscar and Franks.

Not just known for their clothing and accessories offering, Wilson & Hunter is also home to Australian-designed jewellery by Peter Lang and Balyck, and even unique pieces for the home by Australian houses Fazeek and House of Nunu.
