Kick up your heels at these adult dance classes
Whether you took ballet classes as a kid, you’ve always fancied yourself as a bit of a groover on the nightclub dancefloor, or you’re looking for a fun way to get fit and meet new friends, taking a dance class will tick all these boxes and more.
Creator of Dance for Fun Newcastle, Kahli Saunders is passionate about the benefits of dance and says taking a dance class can have a range of positive health benefits besides the thrill of nailing a fun routine.
“Dancing is great for your physical health, your memory, and your mental health because when you’re learning a new dance, it’s a form of mindfulness where nothing else matters but the music and the choreography – your mind lets everything else go and you’re completely in the moment,” says Kahli.
After studying and working as a schoolteacher, Kahli missed the joy and connection that came with dance classes, so she hired a hall and grabbed a few friends together and they started making up routines for fun. “Nine years later and my business Dance for Fun has blossomed into an inclusive space for all ages, genders, and abilities.
It gives everybody who loves to dance a chance to have fun in a safe environment,” says Kahli. “In some classes we have 14-year-olds and 60-year-olds, we have mums, Uni students, doctors, and teachers – everyone comes together out of their hectic daily lives to enjoy moving their bodies to music.”
