Hunter Street has landed itself a tasty new tenant with Nelson Bay-born brand, Two Bobs Bakery, launching its second space on Friday 12th May 2023.

Nikki and Rob are at the helm once more, and they’ve brought their signature Two Bobs vibes with British racing green (a nod to Nikki’s heritage), exposed wood, and antique knick-knacks dotted throughout the space.

Opening on Nelson Bay’s Yacaaba St back in October 2018, Two Bobs Bakery has become a staple for both Port Stephens locals and visitors alike. Now, Novocastrians are enjoying their slice of Two Bobs sourdough and other baked goods.

As you step into the long corridor-like retail space, take in the finished venue with the original fittings – the pressed tin ceiling, and the chandelier and flooring, which have been restored.

“There was a guy in here beforehand doing handmade furniture and there was resin and sawdust everywhere. Nikki scraped the floor for three days to get it back to where it is today which just looks amazing,” Rob shared.

The counter, which looks like it’s been around for years, was custom-built for the space and the vintage-like front door was sourced online.

“There is a guy out in Morpeth who we found on Facebook Marketplace. He restores these old doors. He just does it as a hobby, but his daughter sells them for him. So, Nikki and one of our staff members Matt found it on Marketplace and drove out there to pick it up. We just love it and it gives the space a real warm feel and it brings some character to the space already.”

Serving up their already well-known bread offering, it’s Two Bobs' pastries that have been flying out the door since opening.

“The pastries have been a really big seller at the moment. We assumed our pastries would be popular here and that this space would find its own personality.”

Moving through the store, you’re greeted with their stocked pantry shelves complete with a selection of Two Bobs products alongside some well-known Australian brands.

“The pantry items that we sell are a little bit different and aren’t products you would use in your cooking every single day. People aren’t just buying stuff to cook their Tuesday night meal, but they might get something special or as a gift for someone.”

Located in the heart of Newcastle's CBD squeezed among some Hunter Street icons including LAATE Store and Punjab Pavilion, Two Bobs Bakery in Newcastle is opening from Tuesday through to Saturday, 7.30am-2pm for all of your coffee, bread and pantry needs.
