Honeysuckle lands its very own steakhouse - Nioka

Opening on December 14 2024, Nioka Steakhouse continues to bring a farm-to-table focus to Newcastle’s Honeysuckle foreshore, featuring premium Black Angus beef sourced from Nioka Farm at the foothills of the Barrington Tops.

Nioka Steakhouse’s commitment to quality begins well before the first steak hits the grill. The story of Nioka Farm, the source of the restaurant’s premium Black Angus beef, began in 2019, when Jonno Hope, a second-generation leader in the Hope family business, decided to branch out into cattle farming.

This decision was driven by a desire to utilise the spent grain from the family’s Hunter Valley brewery, Hope Estate. What started as a hobby has since evolved into a serious beef operation, with the Hope family acquiring a 530-hectare property, Nioka Farm, located at the base of the Barrington Tops in the Upper Hunter Valley.

The region’s high-country climate and fertile soil provide an ideal environment for raising Black Angus cattle, and the Hope family has invested in improving the genetics of their breeding program to ensure the highest standards of beef production. 

The cattle are raised in natural conditions, allowing them to graze freely and develop the marbling and tenderness that make Black Angus beef renowned for its flavor and texture. The beef from Nioka Farm is the heart of the Nioka Steakhouse menu, and every cut served is a testament to the family’s dedication to quality.

At Nioka Steakhouse, you’re invited to experience first hand the restaurant’s farm-to-table philosophy which ensures every steak, whether it be a tender ribeye, juicy sirloin, or flavorful T-bone, is of the highest quality. 

The kitchen is overseen by Executive Chef Anthony Fullerton. Anthony is an aged beef specialist and will ensure the beef is carefully prepared and cooked to perfection with Anthony understanding the importance of showcasing the natural flavors and tenderness of the meat.

In addition to the premium beef, Nioka Steakhouse features a range of dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, highlighting the best of the Hunter region’s produce. From seasonal vegetables to artisan sauces and sides, every element of the menu is designed to complement the rich flavors of the beef and create a memorable dining experience.

Whilst you may be coming for the steak Nioka isn’t just about great food – the venue also features a Whiskey & Cocktail Bar, offering an extensive selection of fine whiskies and expertly crafted cocktails. 

The relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere makes it the perfect place to unwind with friends or enjoy a pre-dinner drink while taking in the beautiful views of the harbour.
