Neighbours on Market St

Experience the new kids on the block

Newcastle’s East End provides another great restaurant venue; think Brunch Cocktails and Ricotta Hotcakes. Neighbours on Market St delivers a modern-day customer experience while simultaneously capturing the essence of old-world Newcastle. Owners Jordan and Ali have built on the history of the site, drawing on its heritage ties to create a uniquely rustic and evocative atmosphere.

As the name suggests, the business sits right next to their sister business, and one of Newcastle’s favourite restaurants, Market St Basement, with both venues cohesively integrated into the one location. Both have their own identity, yet beautifully complements the other perfectly.

“We saw there was a missed opportunity for great brunch food in Newcastle.”

“We had always been thinking that Market St Basement was becoming too limited with capacity. We were always booked out and wanted to spread out a little bit. It was perfect for us. Neighbours will operate as café by day, and Market St Basement by night,” Jordan said.

The menu is inspired by locally sourced produce and has been carefully curated by Executive Chef, James Orlowski, with the local demographic in mind. A MIBRASA charcoal oven sourced from the Basque region of Spain is used to enhance flavors of many dishes bringing a distinctive smoky taste.

Neighbours on Market St provides a new unique food experience featuring a number of signature dishes that you just can’t go past. One of our picks is the Full Newie, complete with black forest bacon, fried eggs, lamb sausage, house-made hash brown, woodfired mushrooms, tomatoes, and a smoky BBQ sauce.

For all the falafel lovers out there, you'll be stoked to hear that they're back!

Super popular when they featured on the Market St Basement menu, the team regularly receive requests to put them on the menu. Choose your falafel type either via the Harvest Bowl, a Middle Eastern Plate or in a Wrap.

For a morning drink, you can’t go past one of the breakfast cocktails! Our number one recommendation is the Apricot Breakfast Martini, made with gin, elderflower liqueur, fresh apricot jam, lemon juice, and sugar syrup. However, if that’s not your style, the menu offers a Mimosa, Bloody Mary, or your morning espresso in a martini form! All available from 10am.

“No one really does the breakfast cocktail thing in Newcastle, and we’re already known for cocktails at Market St Basement, so it was a no-brainer for us to offer cocktails here - that was the real driving force for us. Finding that hole in the market and going for it,” Ali said.

When it comes to coffee, Neighbours On Market St is using beans from Ona Coffee, founded by World Champion Barista Sasha Sestic, the roast has been prudently selected based on its broad range of flavour profiles & blends. As well as choosing the Tea Collective teas, offering a quirky variety of flavours including Gingerbread Chai, Chocolate & Coconut Chai and Blueberry Sencha Green Tea.

Whether you’re after a morning mimosa pick me up, long brunch with friends, or looking for an inner-city meeting venue, the Neighbours on Market St is the next place to visit!
