West Gosford has a new kid on the block in the form of a giant yellow chicken called Lenny at the one-of-a-kind fast food joint Kckn Chkn. 

The creation of the husband-and-wife team, Kckn Chkn is bringing the old school back to fast food with no mass-produced meals, frozen ingredients, or automated service.

“We wanted to bring back a bit of the old fast food way. Dining rooms have gotten smaller while kitchens get bigger to churn out more mass-produced food and customer service becomes automated. We wanted to do fast food that is fresh, not frozen, and bring a bit of the family feel back.” 

When the space housing Hungry Jacks on the Central Coast Highway became available it was time to trade in the home kitchen and bring Lenny the Kckn Chkn to life. 

“We’ve been open for a year now bringing a little bit of the US here and homemade.”

Once inside you can tell the space was once a traditional fast food restaurant, but Kckn Chkn have brought back more of a diner vibe than a Hungry Jacks or McDonalds. The place is a family favourite with the owners responsible for everything from branding to recipes, social media, and staff training. 

“You won’t get an automated order screen here, you’ll get our staff face-to-face. We encourage our staff to check on tables and even offer table service when they can between busy periods.” 

While we chat there are two family birthday parties, all smiles over chicken burgers, iced tea and tenders. 

All the chicken at Kckn Chkn is quality breast and tenderloins which are fresh, not frozen. The most popular items are the BBQ Cheese and Bacon Burger, The Nashville (think max hot sauce!) and the tenders offered with a range of flavour bomb homemade sauces. Iced tea is also brewed on-site, an extra nod to the US inspiration behind the menu. 

To top it off Kckn Chkn has introduced a flavour you can’t get elsewhere in its frozen custard desserts. In the future you can expect to see monthly burger, dessert shake, and iced tea specials as Lenny the Chicken plans to pop up in more locations.
