Gosford Regional Gallery

A Central Coast institution, you’re invited to explore Gosford Regional Gallery's spectacular grounds and new exhibitions

Situated on 26 hectares of public reserve, and on the shores of East Gosford’s Caroline Bay, Gosford Regional Gallery offers a multitude of indoor and outdoor experiences for you to explore all year round.

For art lovers, the gallery's three exhibition spaces provide a constant rotation of established and emerging artists. Take some time to shop the gallery, stop for a coffee and a bite to eat at Top Point Café, or pack a picnic and set up under the spectacularly large figs at the galleries entrance.

Since 2000, Gosford Regional Gallery has been welcoming local, national and international artists, and is one of the Central Coast’s leading tourist attractions. If you’re looking for a reason to visit, one of the gallery's exhibition highlights for 2023 has arrived, and it’s a must see.

Premiering at the Biennale of Sydney in 2008, National touring exhibition William Kentridge: I Am Not Me, The Horse Is Not Mine is exhibiting until August 27.

A deeply immersive large-scale, eight-screen video installation, this all-sensory experience allows the audience to be absorbed in Kentridge’s moving image works.

Emerging as an artist during the apartheid regime in South Africa and grounded in the violent absurdity of that period in his country’s history, William Kentridge’s artworks draw connections between art, ideology, history and memory.

Gifted to the Art Gallery of New South Wales by Anita and Luca Belgiorno-Nettis in 2017, the exhibition is one of the most powerful voices in art today, with this ambitious moving image installation now the most significant work by the artist in an Australian museum collection.

Central Coast Council Regional Gallery Director, Tim Braham said, “we are thrilled that funding from the NSW Government, made possible through its Blockbuster initiative, has brought this experience to our Regional Gallery - one of only four regional NSW art galleries in the 2023 and 2024 tour.”

Also exhibiting is Sojourn, by local artist Robert Bennetts.

Developed as a direct result of the lockdown imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working from his studio, Robert has used abstract linear drawings to reflect upon his immediate environment, past works and memory. These initial drawings developed into more complex structures with colour and form but still retain the underlying notion of line in various manifestations.

Working with materials Minka has found, her intricate weaving and basketry practices come alive and entice tactility. Exhibiting for over 20 years in Australia and in Japan, her practice spans across sculpture, paintings, drawing, installation, photography and public art.

A visit to Gosford Regional Gallery isn’t complete without time spent wandering the traditional ‘shuyu’ (strolling style) Edogawa Commemorative Garden.

Officially opened in 1994, the garden extends over 4,000m2 and is filled with meandering paths, a roofed Japanese pavilion overlooking the koi pond, raked dry stone garden and traditional Japanese teahouse. A rite of passage for children on the Coast, purchase a bag of fish food from the gift shop and let the kids, and kids at heart, have some feeding fun.

If you’re wanting to stick around a little longer, head out of the gallery, take a left turn and make your way to the Friendship Walk.

Meandering around the back of the Edogawa Commemorative Garden and following the Gosford shoreline back the main gallery entrance, the Friendship Walk is an easy walk and makes for the perfect way to close out your visit to Gosford Regional Gallery.

Coming to Gosford Regional Gallery is The Japanese Lantern Festival / Natsu Matsuri. Expect live music, Japanese food, a lantern parade, and a bunch of Japanese inspired workshops.
