Newcastle’s hottest free festival returns for 2026
Newcastle’s favourite winter festival is turning up the heat once again!
On Saturday 1 August, 5-9pm at Pacific Park, Newcastle East, Winterheat Festival will transform the foreshore into a glowing winter playground of fire, music, performance and food – all completely free.

Each year, thousands of Novocastrians brave the winter chill for an evening that feels more like a city-wide celebration than a local event, and 2026 is set to continue that tradition.
First ignited in 2004, Winterheat has become one of the city’s longest-running events, and for good reason. Unlike your average community gathering, this is a full-blown festival, crafted by local creative legends Fingers Crossed Creative.
Their director, Zackari Watt, has been part of nearly every iteration, ensuring each year is bigger, brighter, and more exhilarating than the last.

"With the cost of living squeezing budgets, entertainment is often the first thing to go," Zackari says. "But joy isn’t a luxury, it’s essential. Winterheat brings a little slice of that sweet festival magic to the community, completely free. No tickets, no hidden costs (with the delicious local food as the only exception) - just an awesome, fun night out with the community!!"
Food is available for purchase from local vendors, but all entertainment, performances and activities remain free.

What’s on at Winterheat 2026
Pacific Park will once again come alive with a packed program of live music, performance and interactive experiences.
Across the night, festivalgoers can expect live bands, cabaret, comedy, roaming performers and a silent DJ set, creating a constant soundtrack throughout the park.
Fire remains at the heart of Winterheat, with fire sculptures, fire barrels, fire cannons and large-scale illuminated installations turning the park into a shifting landscape of light and heat.
A dedicated Winter Eats precinct will offer fire-lit street dining, with a curated lineup of local food vendors serving up winter-warming dishes throughout the evening.

Families can explore a free kids’ zone, featuring creative workshops, craft activities, face painting and interactive play designed for younger audiences.
Roaming surprises will appear throughout the night, adding moments of unexpected theatre across the site.
Performers bringing the heat
Winterheat 2026 delivers a vibrant mix of live performance and immersive art across the night.
Enchanting Energy presents A Spider’s Spell, a hypnotic spoken word and movement piece blending theatre and physical performance, while Betsy June Smith will MC the WinterTreats Stage, guiding audiences through an evening of music and entertainment.
Festival favourites Curious Legends return with roaming installations and workshops. Frog Impostor, a prog-folk band bringing a playful, genre-bending sound, provides the music, while high-impact aerial performances from Three Rings Aerial light up the night sky.
For those keen to join in, Intro to Salsa will offer a fun, beginner-friendly dance workshop open to all ages. More performers are still to be announced, with further surprises to come.

Bigger, warmer, wilder
Winterheat 2026 is a FREE, all-ages celebration of community, creativity, and keeping cosy – right in the heart of Pacific Park, Newcastle East.
Now firmly embedded in Newcastle’s cultural calendar, the event continues to grow while maintaining its free, community-first ethos.
It’s part performance, part installation, part street party – and entirely built around bringing people together in the middle of winter.
