Newcastle has always had a knack for uncovering hidden gems,  from tucked-away bars and buzzing cafés to creative studios and coastal markets. So, it’s only fitting that the city’s vintage scene is just as full of character.

Across Newcastle’s suburbs, you’ll find racks of retro fashion, shelves stacked with collectables, and antique corners bursting with stories from decades past.

Whether you’re hunting for a 70s bomber jacket, mid-century homewares, or something that simply sparks nostalgia, there’s a treasure waiting to be found.

We’ve rounded up the best vintage and antique spots around Newcastle (the ones locals swear by and visitors fall in love with), to get you to those secondhand gems faster.

Bill’s Place at Hamilton Uniting Church

Inside Hamilton Uniting Church you’ll find Bill’s Place – home to an op shop open Monday to Friday, 9.30am-2.30pm.

Coliseum Antiques

Home to 26 antique dealers in one historic location, Coliseum Antiques is a treasure trove of goods in Mayfield, from furniture and ceramics to jewellery and glassware. With each of the dealers buying from different sources, you can rest assured it will always be an eclectic and fascinating shopping experience.

The Clothing Space 

Situated on Darby St, the Clothing space is a circular fashion retailer, where sellers ‘Rent a rack’, and sell their preloved clothes, so you can be sure to find just about any style within this amazing space! Depending on the seller, you can be sure to still find vintage and quality pieces and even snag some amazing deals,  from casual to formal wear. They also have on offer some accessories from shoes to bags, and the store is full with plenty of racks to look through.

The Conscious Exchange

Consignment store The Conscious Exchange buys, sells, and exchanges pre-loved and vintage clothing, meaning you can bring in your quality secondhand clothing for cash. Owner Emma and her team carefully select what the store stocks, meaning there's no fast fashion or crappy garments to be found – only high quality clothing from premium labels.

Eclectic Corner

Nestled on a corner in Islington is another favourite vintage and antique storefront – Eclectic Corner. Filled with treasures from home furnishings to jewellery and books, vintage shoppers will have a ball browsing Eclectic Corner's collection.

Former Glory Emporium

Former Glory Emporium sells quirky vintage and retro wares in West Wallsend – you're bound to find a treasure when you stop by the store. Expect a mix of homewares, clothing, and accessories, plus even some locally-made skincare products and recycled candles.

Hide + Seeker

At Hide + Seeker you’ll find a cosy space showcasing Geordie’s bespoke leatherwork and Eartha’s handpicked high-quality original vintage collection. The space is filled with racks upon racks of colourful vintage clothing, accessories, and gorgeous hand-made leather bags, belts, and keyrings.

Honey Street

Located in the vintage hub that is Islington, Honey Street offers vintage clothing and accessories from the 60s to Y2K, the retail space is stocked high and low with amazing pieces, and the boutique shopping experience offered is a vibe on it’s own. Think brands like Levi's, Ed Hardy, Juicy Couture, Carharrt, and stacks more – keep an eye on the Honey Street Instagram to get a sneak peek at their latest stock.

Islington Combined Collectables

Islington Combined Collectables features several independent shops in one space on Maitland Road offering hi-fi, records, antiques, retro clothing, collectables, and homewares.

Planet Islington

Step inside and get lost in the vintage lover’s dream that is Planet Islington. Discover a unique mix of retro, vintage, old and new, books, cameras, artworks, and everything and anything else you can (and can’t) imagine, and marvel at the interiors in this former theatre.

The Retro Wardrobe

The Retro Wardrobe is home to vintage clothing and retro treasures, making it the perfect spot for those on the hunt for that quirky piece of furniture, the perfect fashion piece, an old-school kitchenware item, or anything and everything else in between. Seaglass Traders

Old wares, unusual collectables, vintage collectables, antiques, and retro pieces can all be found at Seaglass Traders in Hamilton.

Secondary

Located on the Clyde Street strip, Secondary is chock full of clothing, shoes, jewellery, and accessories, plus a range of antique and secondhand furniture.

Second to None Boutique

Second to None Boutique specialises in pre-loved items by high-end brands, so if you want to buy new without buying new, this is the place to go. With clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories, there's something for every part of your wardrobe. You might stumble across an Alemais shirt, an AJE dress, or even a Coach bag.

Sourced Vintage

The name makes perfect sense, because if there's one thing they do, it’s source incredible vintage. Located on Hunter Street, the retail space is filled to the brim with some of the city’s best vintage, always boasting a huge range of t-shirts, jeans, and outerwear. If you're after a vintage graphic tee, classic pair of dickies cargo pants or Levi jeans, this is the best spot to find it !

Stoned Saint Moon

Stoned Saint Moon has been a staple of the Islington vintage scene for nearly 10 years. The always colourful and cosy store is a must-visit when you're spending the day hopping between shops – spend a while browsing the racks which are filled with bold and colourful pieces from eras past. Chances are you'll find plenty of prairie blouses, 70s-style flares, and patterned dresses.

Un Pantalon

An era inspired vintage ‘wears and wares’  boutique, everything in-store is not just beautifully curated, but owner Rose Greenaway’s passion for organic fibres and ethical sourcing is evident. Rose has also begun running ‘Le Petit Marche’ (a little market), that transforms a sunny sunday stroll down King street into a small vintage haven, as Un Pantalon hosts a small clothing market outside the store. Un Pantalons, little market is of occasion, so keep your eyes on Un Pantalon's Instagram, for the next market date.

Village People Op Shop

Newcastle-based charity, Got Your Back Sista now have two Op shop stores operating within Newcastle, and there’s clearly a reason why they need more than just one store. Both boast a whole range of second hand clothes, from quality label pieces to designer, and you can find just about any style from casual to formal wear. There must be a bit of magic within the team operating both stores, because they always happen to have some amazing items on their hands, and you might just be lucky enough to score a Christian Dior button up, or even your own pair of Le Be Tons!

Chosen Stranger

Formerly known as Chinchen St, Bonnie Lee Tipper of Chosen Stranger has been selling vintage and handmade clothing since 2015, as well as doing clothing repairs and alterations. The label is based on romantic ideals and driven by a passion for sustainable practices. Check out Chosen Stranger or pop your head into The Conscious Exchange, which often sells Bonnie's upcycled and vintage clothing.

I Am Billie Boots opened back in November 2019 and specialises in quality preloved and vintage women’s clothing and accessories.

SagoSun

SagoSun is a local label selling vintage clothing and a handmade range of basic clothing, although we reckon its designs are anything but basic. Keep an eye on its Instagram for regular vintage drops and dates for its next Newcastle flea market.
