There’s a new homewares and lifestyle store situated in the heart of Merewether and for lovers of all things beautiful, it’s an absolute must-visit. Brought to us by two good friends, Holly and Desley, the local feel-good store, Nohea Fox is a representation of all things beautiful, women and Australian-owned, and unique.

The duo both have extensive backgrounds in the hair, beauty, and fashion industries, and have worked alongside one another and apart pursuing their own separate endeavours throughout the years before both finally returned to Newcastle.

Like every great business idea, the concept behind Nohea Fox was born over a social chat between the girls alongside a few glasses of rosé. With Des moving her salon from Merewether Heights to a stand-alone location in Merewether that came with a spare garage space and no idea how to utilise it, the idea slowly started bubbling to life.

“After studying interior design, I needed an outlet where I could be creative and showcase beautiful items.

“Together, we have a very similar sense of style and taste and saw a market for a boutique with niche and different products that people can pop into whilst getting a coffee at Convoy Commune or browse through whilst waiting for their appointment next door at Beauty & The Fox,” Holly said.

Following all the usual delays over covid lockdowns, the homewares and lifestyle space officially launched to the people of Newcastle come December 2021. Receiving nothing but overwhelming positive vibes since opening, this Noosa-Esque boutique boasts a relaxed atmosphere encouraging you to take your time to find the perfect treat yourself item, or gift for someone else.

“Merewether is such a relaxing and coast vibe. You always feel like you’re on holiday or those long weekends that feel extra-long. Having our store stand-alone and away from the hustle and bustle, means you don’t have to fight for parking.

“We want to bring back the joy of browsing and finding the right outfit for you and Merewether has that cool and calm feeling about it that suited what we were looking for.”

The pair are passionate about showcasing women and Australian owned businesses both online and in-store but have put a big emphasis on locally-owned businesses, featuring some of our absolute favourite brands and products.

“So far, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Unrivalled Interiors, Marmalade, Eastaxe, Flode Health, and Sanbasics, all of which are Newcastle owned. We also have amazing artwork from local artists Clare O’hara and Tyler Dan.”

With plans to continue to offer a range of different brands and items that you are unlikely to find elsewhere across Newcastle, you can also expect to see their soon-to-launch premade hampers which will work perfectly for wedding gifts, friends’ birthdays, or even, just because!

Other Australian-based brands shoppers can expect to see include clothing and accessories from One Teaspoon, cocktail mixers from Mr. Consistent, skincare by Alive Body, and ceramics by Robert Gordon just to name a few.
