Luxurious lingerie and sleepwear lovers surely will have heard of this divine local brand; Desvalido.

Brought to us by Newcastle-based, summer loving, cat preferring, sims playing, lingerie designer, Alana Becker, Desvalido was brought to life back in November 2013 and they might just need your help.

The lingerie and sleepwear brand’s goods are designed and handmade right here in Newcastle by the close-knit team of four, and they’ve had a bit of a hard slog, which most small businesses can understand. Just a few months back, the local brand jumped on their socials and asked for help from all the lingerie lovers.

“Almost every small business I've spoken to in the past couple of months is in the same boat; I thought it would be nice to let our customers know we were struggling before we were forced to close, instead of after. At the end of the day, sales are what keeps businesses afloat, so my thought was simply ‘don't ask, don't receive’,” Alana said.

Whilst the past seven years in business hasn’t been a walk in the park, it’s Alana’s passion for the brand that has kept it moving forward. But just last month Alana announced that the following six weeks were going to mean make or break for the business.

So, what can you do to help?

Firstly, you can give Desvalido a follow on the socials and check out their gorgeous range of silk lingerie online! Secondly, buy a scrunchie! Sounds wild, but if Alana can sell 1000 of these little babies, it means she’ll be able to afford to stay in business for another 12-months.

Becoming known for their French knickers over the past seven years, shoppers can expect to browse a unique range of lingerie and sleepwear goods with a whole lot of colour, ruffles, and cheeky cuts!

“We're really passionate about making versatile pieces you can mix and match with a tee and still feel super cute! I love working with all kinds of fabrics to make sure we can keep our pieces accessible for different budgets. I'd say our style is a little bit retro, and our pieces suit so many body types! It was important to us to have an inclusive size range, we currently offer sizes 6-24 and often custom make pieces too.

“We know lingerie can be more than briefs and wired bras. Sexy comes in a million different shapes and the best knickers are the ones that make you feel good.”

With the Spanish word, Desvalido, loosely translating to underdog, we’d like to think this is exactly what Alana’s brand is and will come out of this with her head held high.

“Small businesses often buy from each other, if sales are slow for one of us, we can't buy from our friend & it flows on forever until we're all crying in each others Instagram DMs wondering 'what is wrong with me?' Please shop small whenever you can, not as a favour to me but because small businesses genuinely do great work!”
