Coffee enthusiasts you’ll want to listen in to this one.
It’s nothing new to know that Newcastle’s coffee scene has been experiencing some incredible growth. From just a small bunch of cafes to over 100 new and established cafes as well as a number of locals killing it in the coffee roasting scene in just a few years; could Newcastle be the next coffee capital of Australia?
It can’t be too far off, because according to Australia’s coffee-loving home baristas community, two cafes and roasteries in Newcastle have just been voted amongst the best with Merewether’s roaster and café owner Nathanial James from Frothers Espresso scoring the highest score for its popular house blend, Colour Dot Foundation.
In the latest round of the Home Barista Awards, Colour Dot from Frothers Espresso and the specialty house blend from Hamilton-based favourite, Lords Coffee & Associates beat ten other beans and blends from micro-roasters across South Australia and Queensland to take gold and bronze medals respectively.
Why are we telling you all of this?
Well, as proud Novocastrians and coffee fanatics ourselves, we thought you might like to know you can get your hands on both blends alongside silver medal winner, Brasil Specialty Coffee from Mount Gambier, and Quest from the Gold Coast, in the Home Baristas Awarded Box from Newcastle start-up coffee subscription brand, Coffee Selectors!
Brought to us by Newcastle gal, Jessica Sullivan, Coffee Selectors is Australia’s only coffee subscription service that features four different roasts and blends from a new coffee destination on a monthly rotation. So, customers get to virtually travel to the best cafes and roasteries around the country!
“Locals have always been proud of our coffee culture in Newcastle but to be nationally recognised and awarded by coffee-obsessed home baristas from all over Australia really puts Newy on the coffee map,” Jessica said.
Launching in the middle of COVID lockdowns back in March last year, Coffee Selectors has continually gone from strength to strength with their goal to support artisan coffee roasters all across Australia.
Whilst the brand was launched and operates from here in Newcastle, Coffee Selectors delivers their finds all across Australia, and guess what? It all comes delivered in one of the most beautifully designed and detailed boxes you can imagine.
