To make it a little easier for those looking to make the most of our ever-growing city, we’ve pulled together a day-long itinerary for exploring one of our favourite bustling Newcastle suburbs; Hamilton!

MORNING

Early bird gets the best cup of coffee – that’s how the saying goes right?

Start the day right with a cup of hot coffee from the local legends over at Lords Coffee & Associates. Warming up the machine from 5.30am, Monday to Friday, get in and be treated to some of Newcastle’s most popular cups of coffee. 

Continue on your relaxing morning journey with a stretch class at Hamilton Iyengar Yoga School over on Steel St, directly across the road from Gregson Park. Pre-book a class with the Hamilton-based studio or drop in to get a glimpse of the beautiful space.

Follow up your morning stretch with an equally nutritious and stunning breaky or brunch at one of Hamilton’s favourite cafes; Mockingbird! Head into the Beaumont St nest and be presented with some of the friendliest staff, delicious food, and of course; great coffee! 

DAY

Whilst you’re on Beaumont Street, you’ve got to spend some time wandering and Shop the Hamilton Strip for all the divine goodies it has to offer. Explore the range of stores with products ranging from second-hand and vintage clothing, homewares, and even books, to dedicated children’s stores and boutique clothing stores; the Hamilton strip is home to it all.

All of that retail therapy can be exhausting, so choose from one of the local eateries to dorp in and fuel up for lunch. Our pick? Son of a Gun. Offering everything from healthy veg-loaded dishes to some of your typical burger favourites; it’s got it all. 

AFTERNOON

Hopefully, you haven’t filled up too much at lunchtime, because you’ve got to make space to fit in a delectable treat from ex-MasterChef contestant, Reece Hignell’s space; Cakeboi! All about serving up those classic cakes and old-school desserts, pull up a chair and take your pick from the cabinet before washing it all down with a coffee made with beans from Floozy Coffee.  

Is it time to stretch those legs and let the food sit for a minute? I think so! Head over to the lush green space that is Gregson Park and wander around taking in the stunning fig trees and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Heading into the evening, drop into one of the many watering holes in Hamilton and enjoy an afternoon beverage. The Blind Monk welcomes you in for a beer, a cocktail, or anything in between.

Finish up the evening by booking a ticket into a show at Hamilton’s Young People’s Theatre and support our local entertainment scene. The theatrical training institution is the premiere spot for youth in the Hunter and has been providing performances to locals for over 70 years.
