Thanks to Veronton Dumplings, the Newcastle region can now get fresh, homemade dumplings home-delivered.

The brainchild of Veronica Pontey, the business name is a mash up of Veronica’s name and wonton (AKA a type of Chinese dumpling), and it sums up exactly what Veronton is about – Veronica’s obsession with dumplings!

What started as home deliveries in 2020 on the Northern Beaches of Sydney has become a business on a roll.

Growing up with a Filipino and Chinese mother, Veronica says dumplings were always a staple of her diet. 

“My mum handmade the dumplings we ate from a recipe passed down from my grandfather, which has now been passed on to me.”

When Veronica became a mum, she was time poor and just wanted dumplings like she had when she was growing up.

“I searched for pre-made dumplings from stores, but nothing ever came close to what I had growing up. We all say nothing beats our mum’s cooking, and in this case I found it to be true. What started as a personal obsession was the driving force behind the establishment of Veronton,” Veronica said.

Her idea became reality during the pandemic, and after she started doing home deliveries of her dumplings, the business took off.

“Matt Moran found me on Instagram and put an order through. It was a ‘pinch me’ moment delivering to his home and waiting on the edge of my seat for his feedback. In his words – ‘Bloody good dumplings, some of the best you’ll ever eat.’ It put me on the map!”

Veronica quickly expanded Veronton Dumplings and started offering catering services across Sydney, as well as stocking her dumplings in stores all over the city. 

She says getting a spot on the menu at Stowaway Bar in Freshwater and doing a kitchen takeover at Deus Café have been some of the highlights of the last three years.

Now, Veronica has made the move to Newcastle and she hasn’t been slowing down.

If you’re in Newcastle, the Hunter Valley or the Central Coast, you can now order dumplings from Veronton’s website and have them delivered straight to your door. Or, you can have your event catered by Veronton Dumplings!

You can get your hands on mouth-watering flavours like Szechuan Beef, Prawn, Pork and Vegetable, Pork and Vegetable, and even Cheeseburger dumplings!

The best part? They’re easy to cook, and will be ready from frozen in ten minutes.

Veronica is working on having Veronton Dumplings stocked in stores across Newcastle, with Valentine Butchers and Singos Wholesale Meats already offering her products. 

Veronton Dumplings are also available for catering and restaurant supply, with extra flavours available like chicken taco, plus vegan and breakfast dumplings.

And, after a successful stint of ‘Veronton in the Vines’ at 1813 Wines in 2021 and 2022, the event is coming back in May this year!

When it comes to what’s next for Veronton, Veronica has big ambitions.

“The ultimate goal is for Veronton to be in all mouths across Australia and to be able to share my obsession with the world.”
