A Mediterranean inspired menu with waterfront marina views
We’ve all taken a walk along the harbour and watched those big ships come in, most of us probably don’t even notice them anymore. Yet if you keep cruising down past the docks, right into the heart of Wickham, that’s where you'll get amongst the working end of the harbour. And sitting in prime spot, taking in all the action is The Wickham Boatshed.
Opening in March 2017, Heather Swift, who has for much of her life been involved in the food world, discovered the empty space whilst riding past on her pushy with a bunch of her friends. The 'For Lease’ in the window was a sign from the food and coffee gods.
A Kiwi at heart Heather met her husband, a Newcastle boy, whilst working in the UK, 30 something years later Heather is still living and loving the Newcastle life.
“What’s not to love about Newcastle? ... and I really love this end of the harbour, it’s the working end, there’s always something happening and there’s a nice casual feel to it.”
The menu is Mediterranean inspired with healthy inclusions of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Plated beautifully, be warned they’re big so be sure to come with an appetite and plenty of time cause you won’t want to be scoffing them down in a hurry.
The Winter Wellness Bowl is a winner, with roasted pumpkin, grilled haloumi, roasted vine-ripened cherry tomatoes, puffed quinoa, mushroom medley, kale and seed mix.
Offering coffee from 6.30am it makes for a great starting point for your morning walk, run or coffee catch up.
