The Village Newcastle

Beaumont St’s iconic café spot

If you’re a long-time Newcastle resident and you haven’t dined in at The Village on Beaumont St, the question is, WHY NOT? Owner, Sam Tsolakis took over in March 2017 and has since made The Village the iconic spot that it is today.

“Starting in hospitality, I immediately knew that I would love to someday own my own café. This drive and passion for food and coffee assisted me with achieving this dream,” Sam said.

With his Greek background, it’s no surprise to hear that Sam is passionate about all things food and coffee, and The Village is an absolute testament to that. Serving up some of the best brunch food across Newcastle and slinging out coffee to keep even the pickiest coffee drinker happy; The Village has it all.

“Coming from a Greek family, we pride ourselves on putting on a feast and being great hosts. When people come into The Village, we aren’t only inviting them into our business, we are inviting them into our home. We hope to deliver a homey vibe where everyone feels welcome.”

The local foodie joint features a number of signature dishes that you just can’t go past. Our picks would have to be the Greek Brekkie complete with lemon fried eggs, grilled halloumi, grilled tomato, olive tapenade, garlic mushrooms, spinach, and sourdough with the choice of adding their special pulled lamb.

The other brekky option we would highly recommend would be the ever-so-colourful Beetroot Hummus served on sourdough with avocado, poached eggs, sprouts, and pistachio feta; delish!

Onto the lunch menu, you can’t go past the Pulled Lamb, served with potatoes fries, Greek salad, pita, and tzatziki! The ultimate Greek feast! If you’re after something a little out of the ordinary, taste-test the Fried Squid Tacos with pickled onion, avocado, carrot, coriander, fried shallots, sriracha lime mayo, and spinach; you won’t be disappointed.

“We constantly like to keep up with what our customers like and cater to them. It’s not just a Greek-inspired menu, it really covers a wide variety. One thing is for sure, just like going to a Greek home, you won’t be leaving hungry.”

You can’t dine in at The Village without ordering a coffee, and with a specialty blend by local roasters at Crema Coffee Garage, you can rest assured knowing this cup of joe will hit the spot.

“We worked together to create this blend which is using Colombian, Guatemalan, and Ethiopian beans to complete a medium-bodied but sweet finished brew. We are the only café to have this blend at this stage, making it unique.”
