Belmont 16s Sailing Club

The iconic sailing club has been transformed

After 18 months of hard work, the transformation of Belmont 16s Sailing Club has been completed in time for the club’s 101st birthday.

Dubbed the ‘Centenary Project,’ the $20 million redevelopment has overhauled every aspect of the club – from dining areas and bars, to event spaces and sailing facilities.

The club’s branding has also been revamped to coincide with the physical transformation. Expect a slick updated logo featuring a reimagined version of the club’s original burgee flag, new brand colours, and a return to the club’s full name – Belmont 16s Sailing Club.

It's Belmont 16s like you haven’t seen it before – a modern refurbishment that celebrates the club’s rich history while looking to the future.

“Belmont 16s has always been a cornerstone of sailing and community spirit. The Centenary Project is not just a redevelopment; it's a renaissance. It's a tribute to our sailing heritage and a bold stride towards the future," Belmont 16s Sailing Club CEO Scott Williams said.

"Our enhanced facilities and renewed brand reflect our commitment to excellence and our dedication to the community we so proudly serve."

The centrepiece of the massive redevelopment? Martha, a stunning 120-seat restaurant featuring Mediterranean cuisine, panoramic water views, and a sophisticated yet relaxed interior. It’s an ideal spot to long lunch while you soak up the views, linger over dinner and drinks in the restaurant, or even just grab a cocktail at the bar.

Martha is a breath of fresh air for the dining experience at Belmont 16s Sailing Club, and it’s not the only spot that’s had an upgrade. The venue’s other dining spaces you know and love like SALT Kitchen, Bay Bar, and The Boat Shed Bar have all had a refresh of their own.

Architects from Atlis Design and builders from Graph Building brought the renovations to life, injecting the building with plenty of coastal sophistication.

“It was important to us to use locally-based contractors and subcontractors to our club – we recognise that reinjecting into our local business economy, where our members work and live, is vital,” Scott said.

There’s also been significant upgrades to the club’s sailing facilities, with state-of-the-art race control, training rooms, and a regatta office space. Belmont 16s Sailing Club has always been a hub of sailing excellence in the region, and that’s only set to continue with these updates.
