A premium steakhouse experiences arrives in Newcastle

When Sneha Dev and Savi Dutta opened their first steakhouse in Wollongong’s CBD in March 2023, they were fulfilling a dream.

For Savi, a chef with over a decade of experience in the culinary industry, the idea of building his own brand was a long-time aspiration. Together with Sneha, the pair worked tirelessly to develop a concept that combined premium cuts of meat with exceptional flavours and a unique dining experience.

The result is the steakhouse quickly gained a reputation in Wollongong for its top-quality steaks, vibrant atmosphere, and South African-inspired touches.

Now, less than two years later, the duo has expanded their vision to Newcastle, opening a second restaurant in the bustling Honeysuckle precinct in December 2024.

Why Newcastle? According to Sneha, it was a natural choice.

“As part of our research, we noticed that the Hunter lacked a premium steakhouse, so we decided to bring the experience here. Honeysuckle’s waterfront views, residential population, and thriving restaurant scene made it the perfect location,” Sneha said.

At its core, 7 Cutz Steakhouse offers a distinctive dining concept centred around a custom-made chargrill, which plays a pivotal role in creating their signature flavours.

“The unique point of difference is how we cook our steaks in an open-flamed chargrill, enhancing the doneness and flavour.”

From the moment diners step inside, they are greeted by elegant décor, featuring South African macrames and curtains that add a touch of sophistication. It’s a deliberate design choice aimed at providing guests with a memorable dining experience.

The menu is a true celebration of premium ingredients and expert preparation. Savi’s passion for quality shines through in standout dishes like the little Joe scotch fillet, sourced from South Australia and boasts a marble score of MB4+. Another crowd favourite is the 1.3kg Tomahawk steak, a pure black Angus pasture-fed cut from Victoria.

For those seeking something extraordinary, the specials menu will soon feature a wagyu rib eye with a marble score of MB9+ and dry-aged cuts that change monthly to keep the experience fresh and exciting.

The offerings don’t stop at steaks. The menu also includes an impressive range of entrees such as roasted bone marrow, scallops, and mussels, as well as hearty mains like beef cheeks, seafood linguine, and South African peri-peri king prawns.

Sides, salads, and desserts round out the menu, with the Choco Volcano – a decadent dessert served with honeycomb gelato – standing out as a must-try.

Since first viewing the Honeysuckle space in September 2023, Sneha and Savi have been hard at work bringing their vision to life. The result is a venue that seamlessly blends exceptional food, thoughtful design, and an inviting atmosphere.
