Artisanal Sonoma Bakery opens first Central Coast store in Terrigal
On opening weekend in Terrigal, there were lineups out the door for the highly respected Sydney-based Sonoma Bakery, renowned for its artisanal sourdough, handcrafted pastries, and baked goods.
First opening as a family business in 1998 in Bellata (country NSW), Sonoma Bakery has become a powerhouse of artisanal baking with a cult following in Sydney and Canberra.
Terrigal marks the first Central Coast site and the coming together of two locals in partnership. Sonoma founder Andrew Connole is originally from Terrigal, and store co-owner Leanne McVeigh has known the family for years. Leanne sensed that its chic vibe and expert quality product would be a great addition to Terrigal.
“We’re in this great strip off the beach that is bursting with new boutiques and restaurants, and customers love the combination of the relaxed Terrigal-feel with a bit of ‘metro-cool’ whilst getting top quality bread and goods,” says Leanne.
With a slew of niche and novelty bakeries popping up across the Central Coast, Sonoma brings its sophisticated signature menu of naturally fermented sourdough made with locally sourced ingredients, alongside pastries, pantry items, and specialty coffee.
Sydneysiders now living on the coast are delighted to have a local Sonoma store and people new to the brand are quickly falling in love. Terrigal has already amassed a crew of loyal followers with customers dropping in on their morning dog walk, grabbing their coffee after an F45 class next door, or gathering outside for a slow coffee and croissant over the weekend.
Leanne and her team deliver top-quality service and hope to bring the sense of family and connection that is in the roots of the Sonoma brand to the local Terrigal community. Even Leanne’s two eager daughters get involved during the before-school visit, so you may see them greet you from behind the counter before too long!
This coming together of families to bring Sonoma to Terrigal is a full-circle moment for Andrew Connole, “Terrigal is a special place to me as it is where the humble dream of Sonoma began back in 1998. I worked 150m up the road at the Crowne Plaza whilst we were setting up the original bakery in Bellata.”
Sonoma Terrigal is also stocked with pantry items such as granola, house-made jams, and the launch of the sweet and savoury Bake-at-Home range to turn any household cook into a Sonoma-level baker! Watch out for rotating seasonal options such as the upcoming Christmas release.
