International Test rugby returns to Newcastle

World-class international rugby is returning to Newcastle this July, with Japan set to take on Ireland in a blockbuster Nations Championship Test match at McDonald Jones Stadium.

On Saturday, 11 July, Japan will host Ireland in a historic neutral Test match, bringing international rugby back to Newcastle for one huge night of sport.

Taking place as part of the brand-new Nations Championship series, Japan v Ireland will see two of the world’s top rugby nations go head-to-head in a fast-paced, high-intensity showdown.

The match marks the first neutral international Test played in Australia since 2021, giving Newcastle rugby fans a rare chance to experience a global rugby contest right here in the region.

Following the huge turnout for the Wallabies’ thrilling win over Fiji last year, McDonald Jones Stadium is once again set to deliver a big-match atmosphere.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early, with the Wallabies v France match live streamed across the stadium before kick-off, making it a full evening of elite rugby action.
