An intimate chamber music concert in Newcastle
Contra Concerts is bringing an intimate chamber music salon to Newcastle Conservatorium of Music this October, with harpist Alice Giles, flautist Jonathan Henderson, and violist James Wannan joining forces for a program centred around French music and contemporary composers.
On Friday, 2 October, Giles Henderson Wannan will perform Chamber Music for Flute, Viola and Harp at Harold Lobb Concert Hall.
Set inside Newcastle Conservatorium of Music’s Harold Lobb Concert Hall, the concert brings together three internationally experienced artists for a one-hour program designed to let audiences settle into the rare exchange of live chamber music.
The program explores the unique sound world created by flute, viola, and harp, with French influence sitting at its heart.
Audiences will hear works including Debussy’s Syrinx for solo flute and Sonata for flute, viola and harp, Fauré’s Impromptu for solo harp, Bax’s Elegiac Trio, Elena Kats-Chernin’s Winter from Seasons, and Bruno Mantovani’s Little Italy for solo viola.
Across the concert, each musician will also step forward as a soloist, giving audiences the chance to experience the individual artistry of Alice Giles AM, Jonathan Henderson, and James Wannan.
The Concert Hall bar will open from 6:30pm, giving guests time to arrive early, enjoy a drink, and settle in before the performance begins.
