Newcastle Writers Festival

The annual Newcastle Writers Festival returns in 2024

Celebrating 11 years, the 2024 Newcastle Writers Festival gets underway next March.

The inaugural Newcastle Writers Festival was held in 2013 and was a resounding success. More than 70 writers participated in 38 sessions. NWF is now one of the largest regional literary festivals in Australia.

Launched in 2013 by Rosemarie Milsom, a former journalist who spent 20 years working with Fairfax Media in Newcastle and Sydney. Supporters soon jumped on board, including founding sponsors City of Newcastle, University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Business Improvement Association.

A small but dedicated team works hard to present the festival each year, including Manager Sally Ebert, Volunteer Coordinator Sheree Kable, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator Jean Somerville-Rabbitt, and Digital Manager Zoe Drew. This year, Michele Seminara curated the poetry events, in addition to this the festival is reliant on the more than 150 volunteers who welcome audiences and support the presentation of the event.
