The Rosebank Guesthouse & Gallery in the heart of town hits all of these spots.

Located on the corner of Victoria and Park Streets right in the midst of all the town’s happenings, the building was originally the town’s bank and is now a beautifully restored gallery, guesthouse, and cottage.

Owned by married couple Richard and Jenny, the property is right at home in the middle of the historic village of Millthorpe and boasts high ceilings, large wrap around deck, beautifully appointed garden, and of course; art.

Purchasing the building back in 2012, the duo settled on the property to allow Jenny to pursue her art whilst still maintaining Richard’s background in hotel management.

“I was 2/3 of the way through art school, and this building came up and we just thought it would offer a really nice combination of accommodation and still allow me to do a fair bit with the art. This village was good, so it was a no brainer,” Jenny explained.

The property is made up of a few separate sections; the gallery, guesthouse, gardens, cottage, and private quarters. The gallery is full to the brim of works from Jenny herself but also numerous traditional and contemporary pieces from regional and internationally recognised artists. The large open space is open to the public over weekends and you’ll be sure to find either Richard or Jenny behind the counter ready to talk your ear off.

The Guesthouse is made up of four separate rooms all with adjoining ensuites and communal lounge, kitchen, and dining areas. Throughout it still maintains it’s old-world charm with artworks sitting pretty on every wall. Step outside onto the wrap-around verandah and enjoy the afternoon sun. Book a single room for a romantic weekend away or book out the whole guesthouse for a small group.

“It’s such a magical verandah. When the weather’s nice you can sit out on that verandah for hours and watch the world go by,” Richard said.

Out through the beautiful gardens, you can access the fully self-contained two-bedroom cottage. Nestled amongst the grounds of Rosebank Guesthouse, visitors can make the most of the beautiful gardens, and common areas whilst having a private space.

The gardens themselves are something to explore – the lush green grounds are complete with sculptures and native wildlife. Make sure to take the time to enjoy a cup of tea to catch the morning or afternoon life and listen to the birds sing.

Guests can spend the day exploring all that Millthorpe has to offer or hit the road for twenty minutes and land yourself in Orange. The emerging food and wine region seem to be a natural link for us foodie lovers here in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley to explore.
