Pack your bags, Tasmania is calling

Jetstar has just announced direct seasonal flights between Newcastle and Hobart, connecting the two cities for the very first time.

Starting 2 December 2025, the service will run three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, giving you an easy new way to explore the Apple Isle.

Newcastle to Hobart

The flights will operate through to 21 April 2026 and return each summer through to 2028, part of a growing list of new routes that are turning Newcastle Airport into one of Australia’s most connected regional hubs.

Following recent announcements of flights to Perth and Bali, and the opening of the airport’s new international terminal, it’s clear Newcastle’s aviation future is taking off.

Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton said the new route is another important step in connecting the region to more destinations.

“Newcastle is one of Australia’s fastest-growing centres with the Hunter Region holding its own on a global stage, and we are proud to connect people to the places that matter to them,” he said.

To celebrate the launch, the airport has sponsored a Tasmanian devil through conservation group Aussie Ark. Named Newy, the devil symbolises the airport’s commitment to meaningful connections — not just between cities, but with the environments and communities they touch.

So whether you’re planning a weekend of wine and wilderness, a MONA adventure, or a stroll through Salamanca Markets, you can now do it direct from your local airport.

Flights start from $59 one-way via jetstar.com, but move fast — Tassie’s waiting.
