Asian grocer opens in Marketown
Marketown has been getting plenty of love lately with a newly refurbished dining area, Kai Dumpling opening up outside, and just recently, the opening of YG Supermarket; an Asian Style Grocer.
Owned by the same team behind the Chinese restaurant, Kai Dumpling, YG Supermarket is bringing their own Asian flair to the people of Newcastle with all the best goodies lining their shelves.
Finding it difficult to get their hands on the Chinese vegetables, seasonings, and spices they wanted in their own home, it seemed like a no-brainer to open up their own dedicated space.
“People were struggling to get the goods that they want. The Chinese vegetables, seasonings, and spices were hard to get here so they were having to travel down to Sydney. I had the idea of opening a store in Newcastle with more varieties of Asian products.
“Mainly we have Chinese products, but we also have a few products that are Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, and from the Phillipines as well. For the Korean and Thai, we have more seasonings and sauces which people have loved being able to find here. For the Japanese, we have the sushi-making products; like the rice and the sauce. For Chinese, we have dumplings which both the locals and the Asian people have loved finding here,” Jacky said.
Launching the Asian Grocer in mid-October, YG Supermarket has been inundated with requests for products from all over Asian countries.
“It’s been a good response thus far. A lot of Asian people are coming in saying they can’t find these products anywhere else in Newcastle. We actually have this connection with customers that if they say they’re looking for something that they cannot find around Newcastle we’re willing to help them to import it in.”
Not just stocking goods from Asia, YG Supermarket is also restocking fresh fruit and vegetables every day. Whilst most are traditional Asian used vegetables, there’s a little bit of everything with some of the best prices around town.
“Every week we have different selections of products on special which helps make our Asian Grocer a more affordable way to shop.”
Saving the trip to Sydney for many, YG Supermarket is also making itself known amongst locals who love trialing new flavours in the kitchen or can’t help themselves when it comes to Asian snacks!
“A lot of the snacks we have are actually some of our favourite childhood snacks.”
Love yourself some Thai Milk Tea? Frozen Dumplings? Or even some crazy KitKat flavours? YG Supermarket has it all.
The store is organised into categories with Chinese goods in one aisle, Japanese in the next and so on. So, whether you know exactly what you’re looking for, just love a good browse, or are keen on giving new flavours a try, drop on in to Newcastle’s newest Asian-style grocer; YG Supermarket.
