For Celeste Scott, the creative force behind Butter, cake isn’t just dessert – it’s a celebration of life’s sweetest moments.

Based in Newcastle, Butter has steadily become known for its thoughtful and playful approach to wedding cakes, all crafted with love by the former banker turned baker.
Celeste’s journey back to Newcastle, and into full-time cake-making, was born out of a desire for something more meaningful. After studying business and commerce, she spent a decade in the banking world, living between Sydney and New York. Despite numerous career milestones, something was missing.
“Baking was always a hobby that I loved and was doing any chance I could. I’d been running an Instagram account just as a creative outlet to practice making cakes and improve my skills, but that just made me fall in love with it even more,” Celeste said.
When the pandemic hit, Celeste returned home to Newcastle, and the pieces fell into place. In July 2021, Butter was born – albeit in the middle of lockdown.
“It wasn’t the greatest time to start a business oriented towards weddings. So, I consider its real launch as January 2022, which is when I delivered my first wedding cake.”
Since then, Butter has grown organically, driven by word of mouth, a distinctive visual style, and Celeste’s joyful philosophy.
“Cake is fundamentally a joyful, fun experience. It’s inherently celebratory and meant to be shared with loved ones for special moments. And that’s never more true than at a wedding.”
Her approach to wedding cakes is deeply personal. Rather than following trends, Celeste sees each creation as a reflection of the couple behind it.
“I try to always approach my wedding cakes with a playful spirit and celebrate each couple, what makes them special, and what they love.”
Now, with a solid presence in the wedding world, Butter is expanding to help people celebrate beyond just the big days with their newly launched online store – making it easy for customers to order smaller, thoughtful designed cakes for birthdays and other special occasions.
“While everything worth celebrating deserves a cake, not every celebration needs that cake to be huge, or a fully custom design. So, people can expect cakes that are still beautiful, made to order, and just as fresh and delicious as the wedding ones – I just need three days’ notice.”
As for what’s next? While Celeste is content focusing on Butter’s current growth, the dreamer in her has ideas brewing.
“One day I’d love to write a cookbook!”
With its roots in creativity and community, and a clear mission to spread joy through cake, Butter is more than just a sweet stop – it’s a celebration of turning passion into purpose.
