Newcastle Quay takes another step forward on the Honeysuckle waterfront.

Plans for Newcastle Quay are continuing to move ahead, with developer DOMA Group lodging two key planning requests just one month after the $1.6 billion precinct was announced.

The first request relates to the overall precinct masterplan, marking the official start of the planning process for the major waterfront development. A second request has also been lodged for Stage 1, which is set to include more than 200 residential units, alongside casual dining, commercial and retail spaces near Newcastle Harbour and Cottage Creek.

Newcastle Quay will form the final stage of Honeysuckle’s long-running transformation, building on decades of urban renewal led by Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation.

Once complete, the masterplanned precinct is expected to include more than 11,000sqm of public open space, around 1,000 new homes, commercial and retail space supporting around 4,000 workers, and a new 180-room hotel and conference centre connected with the heritage-listed Wickham School of Arts.

The project will be delivered in stages across 15 years, with separate applications to be made for future stages. Essential mine grouting works are also being progressed as part of the early preparation.

The completed precinct is expected to create a new day-to-night destination for locals, visitors, and businesses on Newcastle’s waterfront.
