Newcastle East unveils a brand new chapter for the iconic neighbourhood

One of Newcastle’s most iconic neighbourhoods has relaunched with a refreshed, and re-energised approach - say hello to Newcastle East.

An idea formed in early 2025 by five passionate Newcastle East small business owners, known as East End Collective, they shared a single vision: revitalise the precinct and remind those beyond Newcastle East just how thriving and connected a destination it is.

This hard work paid off with the East End Collective receiving a major grant from the NSW Government’s Office of the 24-Hour Economy, which has helped shape the precinct's new brand, website, and dedicated social channels.

The Newcastle East brand is more than a new name and a fresh look.

It’s about bringing over 100 precinct businesses together and placing a spotlight on the area’s diverse offering - reminding locals and visitors alike that it’s a must-visit destination, both during the day and after dark.

Since launching on January 29, several initiatives have already rolled out, including:

→  A collaboration with Hunter Parking and Storage to help solve the ‘no parking in the city’ misconception. For $5 visitors can park after 5pm for up to five hours, or park overnight until 8am for $18, at 50 Bolton Street, Newcastle.
→  Newcastle East Guided Foodie Tour - launched in collaboration with Newy Tour Co - offers a curated foodie experience celebrating the precinct's rich history and iconic dining destinations.
→  Newcastle East has also provided support for businesses keen to take part in Newcastle Food Month. In 2026, 22 restaurants, bars, and cafes will be featured across both events and plate dates in what is the biggest involvement to date.

A bold idea initially, the new precinct will work hard to remove perceptions that there is no reason to visit the city. Whilst there has been a lot of change, and there’s plenty more to come, there is a large and diverse range of quality businesses that invite you to visit.

You can come in to go to the beach and there's a wide variety of places that you can eat, drink, or shop afterwards.

The new website features an interactive directory of the businesses you can visit, and showcases the variety of events and offers, whether that be food, live music, or special events.

Together, the East End Collective is shaping a bold future for Newcastle East, and invites the entire community to be part of it.

East End Collective is supported by the NSW Government through the Uptown Grant Program and the City of Newcastle by the Special Business Rate Grant Program.
