Global online nutrition coaching and fitness programming
Newcastle stands as the home for Kate Gordon’s CFK Nutrition and Programming business – a transformative fitness and nutrition coaching service.
Kate, born and raised in Auckland, a nomad at heart, and now a Newcastle local, is a seasoned fitness trainer and nutrition coach and brings her expertise to Novocastrians and the broader community. Her unique approach to health and wellness combines nutrition coaching with an emphasis on habits, psychology, and body image.
With a background spanning back to 2012, Kate has worn many hats across the fitness industry. From being a gym trainer to becoming a weekend seminar instructor for aspiring trainers – her career trajectory has seen her manage several gyms before transitioning to online nutrition coaching and then starting CFK Nutrition and Programming.
Kate’s personal journey with fitness and nutrition really kicked off when she discovered CrossFit in 2011.
“I quickly realised that my body was capable of so much more than I thought but I had established a really unhealthy relationship with food and was a binge-eater for years. I attempted all kinds of diets and was never able to sustain them, so I just felt like a perpetual failure,” Kate said.
This struggle is what ignited her mission to help others navigate the complexities of nutrition, leading her to earn three nutrition certificates and receive mentorship from some of Australia’s best coaches. Today, 12 years on from her initial experience with the CrossFit world, Kate has coached thousands of individuals to help transform their lives and live sustainably.
With the aim to do things differently, Kate officially launched CFK Nutrition and Programming a little over two years ago.
“Weight loss is a pursuit that has to be done in a way that doesn’t compromise health (or sanity). We are humans living in a world where food is a major source of joy and connection. Our nutrition has to factor this in!
“I came into this wanting people to learn that long-term results depend on their ability to eat well but still enjoy life. Health doesn’t depend on complete restriction; you don’t have to cut out entire food groups to be healthy or to lose weight. Essentially, I wanted to redefine the diet industry and so here we are!”
The online nutrition and programming offering includes tailor-made coaching plans for individuals, completely avoiding cookie-cutter diets or meal plans. The focus instead is on long-term planning, consistency building, and giving clients the ability to be free of the perfectionist mindset.
So, how does it work?
“Our clients sign up online and the whole process begins with a phone call with their coach. It’s not an app, it’s not a calculator, it’s a person who you will talk to every week, and you will build a relationship with them.”
The minimum commitment period is 12 weeks, with Kate sharing that most of her clients stay on for at least 6-12 months because they fall in love with the process. Working on to average $8.60 (AUD) per day, the CFK Nutrition & Programming experience offers an accessible investment into one’s health and well-being.
Kate’s current clientele primarily includes individuals who have tried various diets and trends, having found themselves stuck in cycles of all-or-nothing eating patterns.
“The people we love to help are those who believe their health is important and have goals with their weight, but also enjoy eating out or trying new cafes or celebrating things like Christmas. What we show is how to be healthy AND learn to eat out without being all or nothing.”
Kate’s one piece of advice for individuals thinking about where to start or where to look next is,
“You usually need more action, not more information – you will learn as you go and, you usually need more accountability and support, not more independence and isolation as you pursue goals. The answer – ask for help, it’s a power move.”
Kate’s passion for her work is concrete, cherishing the opportunity to show people that change is not only attainable but also sustainable.
As for the future of the business, CFK Nutrition and Programming will be expanding with their in-person nutrition seminars and events, giving Kate and her team the opportunity to connect with people and address their nutrition concerns face-to-face.
Through prioritizing flexibility, psychology, and sustainable habits, Kate and the CFK Nutrition and Programming team is there to support and empower their clients to achieve lasting health and well-being.
So, as the year-end festivities approach, remember that this may just be the ideal time to prioritize your nutrition with a coach who will keep you accountable and help you break free from that all-or-nothing mindset.
