Palm Springs, pizza, and plenty of personality at The Lucky
There’s a new reason to make tracks to The Lucky Hotel on the corner of Hunter and Crown Streets, and it has the aroma of Napoli on a summer evening.

A custom-built, bright pink pizza oven – affectionately referred to as she by General Manager Beth Powell – has taken up residence in the kitchen, quietly transforming the food offering at this Newcastle CBD favourite.

“She was custom-made for us in Italy and she’s nice and bright and pink! She’s tucked away in our kitchen, but for a minute there, we did consider remodelling the kitchen just so we could show her off,” Beth said.

With The Lucky’s bold, feminine Palm Springs-inspired aesthetic already well-known and loved, the addition of a vibrant pizza oven was a natural next step.
“Three months of logistics later and the oven was fired up, making her debut at The Lucky’s Made On Sunday inaugural Block Party on Sunday, April 20.
“That was our first day and we were slinging out pizza slices for everyone – it was such a great vibe.”
Since then, the pink powerhouse has been turning out eight classic Italian-style pizzas under the direction of Head Chef Aneesh – who has been mentored by Danny Russo, owner and creative head at Russolini Group – bringing both his experience and heritage to the table.
Head Chef Aneesh
“Anish is our head chef and he’s been with us for the last couple of years now. He started as our Sous Chef and has moved up into the Head Chef role. He brings with him part Italian heritage and he’s doing amazing things with the dough.”

The current pizza menu showcases the greatest hits of Italian pizza culture, showcasing quality ingredients and simple, timeless combinations (as well as some of our Aussie favourites).

From the margherita with Fior di latte mozzarella, Napoli sauce, tomato, and basil, to the indulgent garlic prawn with Fior di latte mozzarella, confit garlic, prawns, roquette, tomato, and zucchini – the menu is both comforting and crave-worthy.
There’s also the carnivora for meat lovers, the lucky vego for the plant-based crowd, and the prosciutto & cheese that’s begging to be paired with a glass of crisp white.
The launch of the rather iconic pink pizza oven is just the beginning for The Lucky Hotel. Following the success of their first block party, the team is planning to bring it back biannually for the Easter and October long weekends.

Their ever-popular bottomless brunches continue to be a hit, now themed for maximum enjoyment.
With this latest offering from the kitchen, still being a go-to for upcoming functions, and an events calendar packed with personality, The Lucky Hotel is doing what it does best – bringing people together in playful, surprising, and delicious ways.
