The trusty Newcastle CBD Hotel has revamped its food offering
The Crown & Anchor has been serving Novocastrians for over 100 years and with the revamping of its food menu, maybe it’s time you revisit to sink a few at this inner-city watering hole.
Located right in the heart of the Newcastle CBD on the corner of Hunter and Perkins streets, The Crown and Anchor has been a longstanding institution within our local pub scene.
Dropping by this friendly and classic Aussie pub, we hear all about the revamped food menu PLUS hear about where to find the secret room and the revival of Sprout Dining upstairs.
Monday
Get your hands on $15 housemade pasta. Choose from the Vegan Linguine complete with roast capsicum, tomato, and basil in a Napoli sauce; the Carbonara with linguine pasta, grilled chicken, bacon, mushroom, and avocado in a creamy garlic sauce; or the Prawn Linguine with basil, and spinach in a Napoli Sauce.
Please note: the menu for Monday's pasta night changes weekly
Tuesday
Tuesday nights are all about their $2 tacos! That’s right, you can enjoy as many tacos as your body allows for just $2 per taco. Pick your choice of protein (beef mince, chicken, fish, or vegan), and the kitchen will jam-pack your tacos with black beans, corn, and salsa. To finish off your meal, wash it all down with a $10 margarita from the bar.
Please note: the menu for Tuesday's taco night changes weekly
Wednesday
It wouldn’t be a traditional pub without a schnitzel night and The Crown and Anchor delivers on Wednesday with their $15 chicken schnitzels with a selection of 10 different toppers for just $5. Some of our favourites include the Spanito with capsicum, chorizo, cheese, and chipotle aioli drizzle; The Cranka with cheese, cream, bacon, and shallots; and lucky last, The Godfather complete with bacon, salami, chorizo, baby spinach, and cheese in Napoli sauce.
Thursday
Thursdays are reserved for the best of you shower singers – that’s right, karaoke takes over The Crown & Anchor on Thursday nights – what will you be singing?
Friday + Saturday
Enticing us all into the venue of a Friday and Saturday night is the rotating mix of live music on offer. Friday night comes alive from 8pm, and on Saturday the tunes kick off at 9pm.
The kitchen’s experience really shines with their ever-changing food specials, with the owners showcasing not only that you can come along for some typical pub grub, but you can get your mouths around a blooming good meal too.
Additionally, the upstairs is soon to relaunch with Sprout Dining bringing you a completely different menu, bringing back what the restaurant space used to do; think entrees, pasta, and mains – a menu changing weekly depending on what the venue gets in that week.
Whilst the Sprout Dining space is yet to launch, we can’t wait to welcome back this second-storey foodie hotspot that will no doubt have people returning week in and week out.
Oh and how could we forget, the secret space? If you’re not looking for it, you might just miss this one.
Situated just off to the bar, and behind a bookcase, this cosy nook of space is available to book for groups, or if you’re really lucky the team may give you a sneak peek!
Whether it’s been a long time since you dropped by, you’re a frequent visitor, or you’ve yet to drop by The Crown & Anchor before, it may just be time for you to drop anchor, settle in, and sink a few at this inner-city watering hole.
