The Burwood

An old school suburban pub with one serious steak menu

From a quick glance, The Burwood Inn looks like your classic old-school suburban pub, and it kind of is except for one minor detail. It comes with one freakin’ awesome menu.

Tucked down Berner St in Merewether, The Burwood’s been around forever, and has been keeping both the young and older folk of Merewether, and beyond, hydrated and entertained for a long time. And current owners, Tony, and Sandra Dart are continuing the tradition of good old fashioned hospitality.

In 2009, The Burwood underwent a much-needed reno, shaking things up with every space throughout the pub getting a revamp. Nothing too slick and fancy. Instead, a merging of contemporary style, with a cosy-at-home kind of feel.

The restaurant and courtyard area received a smart fit-out, matched to a sophisticated menu that would give any gastropub in the UK a run for its money. Checking out the menu it’s fair to say it’s meat-heavy, and that’s what The Burwood has become renowned for. Big, juicy Rumps, Sirloins, Scotch Fillets, and Rib Eyes, all cooked to your liking and served with hand-cut chips, green beans plus your choice of house-made Café de Paris or Truffle butter, Horseradish crème Fraiche, Port jus, Smoky Chipotle BBQ, Chimichurri, Green peppercorn, plus pub favourites, Diane, Mushroom and Garlic prawn topper.

“To match the sophistication of the menu we have a great and varied wine list, including a Cellar Pick List, to really entice and excite the wine lover.”

With a long-term vision to create the perfect wine list, Tony has sourced, locally, interstate, and abroad, to create an impressive and interesting list catering to all tastes.

Whilst the meat is a standout the rest of the menu has some other big highlights, like the Fish of the day, which is everchanging and always spectacular; a real favourite amongst locals. Plus, many pub favourites, like crumbed cutlets and pork ribs. And of course, what menu is complete without a schnitzel!

And if the meat is not your style, The Burwood Inn has some amazing vegetarian and vegan options, changing seasonally and always extremely impressive. Even the meat lovers can’t help but partake in them occasionally.

With Jeremy Salmon in charge in the kitchen and owners, Tony and Sandra Dart, who have been in the hospitality industry forever, in a very hands-on role, The Burwood Inn ticks all the boxes when it comes to not only an amazing foodie experience but also just good old fashioned pub hospitality.
