A taste of Brazil lands on Darby Street with Oakberry Açaí having officially opened its doors on Saturday, 10^th of December.

Right in time for the summer holidays and our iconic Aussie heat, the Brazilian brand Oakberry has quickly grown to a global brand in its short six-year stint with Newcastle finally getting its very own venue.

Brought to you by franchise owners and Brazilian-born mates, Guilly, Pedro, and Sam, Oakberry Newcastle is only a few weeks old but is already building a reputation for some of the most authentic açaí available in town.

“We all met in Brisbane about 7 or 8 years ago. The Brazilian community up there is huge, and we all became friends pretty quickly,” Sam said.

The trio have been busily trying to bring their very own Oakberry to Newcastle since September 2021 and are so exciting that they can officially celebrate all the goodness that is açaí with the people of Newcastle.

“We’re absolutely buzzing! We can see this dream finally coming true and it’s so exciting. We’ve put our entire lives into this space, so we’re excited to finally be open.”

Now, Newcastle certainly isn’t new to the concept of açaí. We’ve been devouring açaí bowls for years and it’s become quite a staple in our summer diets. So, what makes Oakberry any different?

“The main thing is the high quality of our product. Our acai is shipped straight from Northern Brazil to Australia. The quality and the taste is exactly the same as what you would have in Brazil.”

With a particularly simple concept, Oakberry’s mission is to deliver a tasty, natural, and nutritious experience, and they do so with their two product offerings; Açaí bowls and Açaí smoothies.

Have you ever heard the concept don’t complicate a good thing? That’s exactly what Oakberry is about and when you’re working with top-tier açaí, there’s no need to complicate the rest of it.

If you’re ordering a bowl, the fun part comes in when you get to choose your toppings giving you the chance to customise your Oakberry to your heart’s desires. Think of ingredients like strawberries, bananas, granola, coconut flakes, peanut butter, protein, and the list goes on. The best part? You can quite literally get UNLIMITED toppings.

“My favourite is with banana, strawberry, kiwi fruit, peanut butter, and vegan granola.”

More interested in the smoothies? The Oakberry menu boasts six pre-designed smoothie options or you can get creative and make your own using your favourite toppings.

“I go pretty simple as well with banana, strawberry, vegan granola, whey protein, and that’s it,” Pedro said.

The trio are all invested in expanding their Oakberry footprint with plans to potentially look into multiple venues over the coming years. So do watch this space!
