Merewether Surfhouse

Pizza, gelato, beers & that amazing view!

Do you remember what life was like before Merewether Surfhouse? For those of you who don’t, try picturing a disheveled, decaying building which had laid dormant since being damaged in the 1989 earthquake. Unsightly and sad it was the topic of many a conversation for way too long. Today, however, driving past the Henderson Parade multi-story glass structure it’s hard to remember what the old Surfhouse even looked like.

Aside from its smart design and spectacular location what’s most to love about Merewether Surfhouse is the way in which it caters to both young and old.

Upstairs on the left you have the child free, older sophisticated set who are partial to a bevy or two. On the right there’s the a-la-carte restaurant, with flavours that reflect a modern Australian menu. Go down a level and you’ll find the function spaces, perfect for that seaside wedding or smart business do. Hit the ground floor and this is where it really gets busy.

From dawn to dusk you can find mums, dads, kids and grandparents, scooters and bikes, runners and dawdlers, and the odd four footed friend cruising up and down one of the busiest pathways in Newcastle.

For those looking for a lazy breakfast or afternoon get-together the Surfhouse café offers not only some tasty bites but a super relaxed vibe. Looking for something even more relaxed then head to the Pizza Shop and get a pizza, a beer or soda and a scoop of gelato. The café is a fab place to take the kids, not only is the menu perfect for the little ones but the chilled approach that staff take to kids on bikes, scooters and trikes is super cool.
