Since its inception in 2011, Merewether Surfhouse has become a staple amongst many a Novocastrian lifestyle. Whether it be for a celebratory drink at the top bar, a family dinner in the restaurant, or a coffee at the kiosk.

Come 28^th November 2022, a refreshed approach to the lower-level space has seen the arrival of a new experience and one that will no doubt become a constant go-to for both locals and visitors alike.

Over ten years since we’ve had this iconic venue serving up not only these incredible ocean views but continually hitting the note when it comes to top-notch quality food, drink, and service, it was about time that the lower level received a facelift.

Following four months of renovations, the Merewether Beach Bar has come to life connecting the entire lower level into one giant offering open seven days a week from 7am-9pm. Offering a fresh approach to dining, the beach bar is perfect for anyone and everyone. From those wandering in after a swim with no shoes and boardshorts on, those having a relaxed lunch meeting, to the romantic dinner, and everything in between; it truly is the meeting spot for all.

As you round the corner and step into the renovated space, you’ll be delighted with the newly revamped space before you featuring an open, coastal feel and neutral palette throughout.

The interiors seem to mirror the Merewether Beach environment with its neutral palette and timber accents. The standout though has got to be that incredible pink marble; a reflection of the area’s iconic pink-filled afternoon skies.

With outdoor seating perfect for lapping up ocean views, indoor booth seating for those wanting slightly more privacy, and the window bar seating overlooking the happenings of the area; there’s a perfect nook for whatever the mood.

Whilst we’re impressed with every corner of space, surely you’ve got questions about the food? Well, being open from morning through til the evening, the Merewether Beach Bar kitchen team have curated a menu for all touching on Southern Californian flavours with nods to Mexican favourites.

The breakfast menu runs daily from 7am-11.30am and offers your typical Aussie approach with dishes like their Acai Bowl, Fresh Avocado on Sourdough, Eggs Benedict, and Pancakes amongst the favourites as well as a few signature plates like the Brioche French Toast, Sweet Corn & Buttermilk Fritters, and Mexican Beans.

Moving into the lunch and dinner menu kicking off from midday is where the Mexican flavour influences really come to life; with a dedicated taco menu featuring six topping options and four Southern Californian beach burrito offerings.

The whole vibe of the menu reflects that of what you would expect to enjoy at a relaxed beachside venue. Simple and fresh, yet approachable and fun. The starter menu is great for those whom just need a little something to graze on with the Sweet Corn Ribs, Fresh Prawn Tostata, and Ceviche amongst our favourite picks.

Whilst that Southern Californian and Mexican influences are strong throughout the menu, Merewether Beach Bar has of course included a bunch of favourites that you’d expect to see at a coastal foodie haunt including their Beach Burger & Chips, Fish & Chips, a Market Salad, and more.

Now, if you’re calling yourself a beach bar, you’ll be wondering what’s on the drinks menu; trust me when I say they’ve got you covered! Sticking with their Southern Californian vibes, the Margarita offering is certainly a highlight with 10 varieties available as well as a selection of spritz, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic options.
