A fresh New York-style pizza flavour arrives at a Hamilton favourite
If you’ve driven down Hamilton’s Beaumont Street recently, its newest dining addition - Danny’s Pizza By The Slice, and its bright neon lights will have no doubt caught your eye.

No guesses are needed for what you’ll find on the menu, and whilst Danny’s Pizza adds to an already extensive, and quality lineup of pizza joints in Newcastle, the concept behind Danny’s Pizza is completely unique.
Formerly known as, and still to a certain extent, Good Folk Brewing, Danny’s Pizza brings to Beaumont Street that famous 18-inch New York-style pizza.

Speaking with co-owner of Danny’s Pizza Phil Elsley, Phil explained what brought about the shift in the business,
“We wanted to do something different with the space, remove the industrial look, and instead offer a more relaxed space for customers to eat and drink in.

“We love pizza, beer and great music so the idea of having a takeaway pizza shop at the front and a speakeasy vinyl bar at the back seemed like a great option.”
At Danny’s Pizza, you’ll find a menu filled with New York-style pizza flavours and for the most part, the option to buy them as whole (18”), half, or by the slice, another nod to the Big Apple.

The venue itself offers two distinct vibes. The front area has a lively, fast-paced takeaway setup, perfect for grabbing a quick pizza and drink. For those wanting to stick around, the speakeasy-inspired vinyl bar features a low-lit, comfortable atmosphere with the booth style seating and DJ deck making it easy to get social and unwind.

When it comes to the drinks, Good Folk Brewing remains a central part of the venue’s menu lineup, with all of their popular beers still available on tap.

Naturally we were curious about the name, and who Danny is, which Phil kindly filled us in on.
“Long story short, Danny Egan was a local at the Blind Monk who passed away in a bicycle accident a few years ago, and was the original inspiration behind Good Folk’s Danny’s Wedge Beer and Good Folk Brewery.
“All of his friends got together with the Blind Monk and made a beer in his honour not long after he passed called Danny’s Wedge. It was originally just to be a once-off brew, however it tasted and sold so well we kept it in production via gypsy brewing. This then inspired us to open Good Folk Brewery with the assistance of his friends and family investing in the brewery.”
