Your new favourite smoothie bowl store has just opened in Newcastle

For all the Novocastrian acai bowl lovers, your obsession may just grow following the opening of Bowlarama Bowls in Broadmeadow. Located right in the midst of the suburb’s fitness precinct, the Newcastle location can be described as a bright and cheery wellness café.

The franchise - which was first launched in the Central Coast - is home to a flavourful, nutritious menu of not just acai, but a whole wealth of smoothie bowls.

Connor and Lily commenced their business venture in 2021. Both having backgrounds in the fitness industry, they started work on their Broadmeadow storefront with the original intention to open it as an expansion of the active industries brand to bring an Active Spin studio to Thornton.

It was not until visiting one of their friends’ Bowlarama stores, that they considered incorporating the business into their own space.

Co-owner of Newcastle Bowlarama and founder of The Fit Movement, Lily says a personal love of smoothie bowls and connection to the franchise owners fuelled the business decision.

“I always used to make smoothie bowls at home and Connor got obsessed with them and then we started following Scott and Elle [Bowlarama founders] through their gym and saw they had an acai bowl café. We went down there and saw how they had health, wellness, and nutrition all in the one space and we really wanted to bring that to Newcastle,” Lily said.

Connor and Lily say it took 5 months of hard work, with minimal tradespeople, to make the space what it is today. With a clear vision in their minds, they completely revamped the pre-existing building. Officially opening on Saturday, the 1st of October, the two say that the store has been buzzing ever since.

The official launch is just the beginning for the pair, however. Connor and Lily aim to bring a multi-business, wellness space to Newcastle.

“Bowlarama wasn’t in the picture straight up. We just got the building and jumped straight into the deep end and [then] thought, ‘what can we put into this space?’. In the long run, we’re probably going to have five different companies in this building,” Connor said.

What’s next to come? The Bowlarama space will soon welcome Active Empire’s sister gym, Active Spin. With hopes to open later this year, the adjoining gym focuses on 30-minute, high-intensity workout classes incorporating cycling, boxing, and weights all into a 30-minute HIIT class.

As for the space’s smoothie bowl menu, Bowlarama offers over 20 options of healthy, plant-based smoothies and bowls, which are made fresh to order.

“We’ve got about 12 different bowls. They all come with the same toppings which are orange, banana, apple, granola, and coconut. We also have about 20 other options so people can customise their bowl and make anything they want really,” Lily said.

Thus, it can be assured that your order won’t only taste delicious but have that quintessential aesthetic pleasure that comes with having a smoothie bowl.

After an exciting launch, it’s to be certain Connor and Lily aren’t stopping at just Bowlarama. With a large building at their hands, there’s a lot more in store for 63 Broadmeadow Road.
