Newcastle’s first indoor pickleball venue lands in Cardiff

Rain, hail, or shine, there’s a new way to play in Newcastle.

The city’s first indoor pickleball venue, Pickleballerz, has officially opened its doors in Cardiff, serving up eight premium cushioned courts built for fun, fitness, and a whole lot of friendly competition.

Co-founder Dave Sampaklis explains, “We wanted to create something completely new for Newcastle, a space that feels social, energetic and inclusive.

“Pickleball brings people together in a way that’s instantly fun and accessible. Whether you’re competitive or just want to move, laugh and connect, this place is built for that.”

Situated in the former Parrey Skate Park, the first thing you'll notice as you enter is just how big it is. The massive 1890 square metre space is completely brand new and with the eight cushioned indoor courts all indoors, meaning you can play all year round – no need to cancel when the weather turns.

Regular programs are already rolling out, including women’s-only nights, kids clinics, and free ‘learn to play’ sessions with the Pickleballerz coaching crew.

For those looking to dive deeper, memberships offer regular access and exclusive events, while social nights, comps, and weekend drop-ins give everyone a chance to join in, no matter where your skill level is at.

So who can play Pickleball? 

If you're a newbie to the game of Pickleball the answer is, anyone can play. 

Think of the game as a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, all merged together and played on a smaller court. It's easy to pick up, and if you have a half decent opponent you'll have loads of fun.   

Open for casual play, private court hire and memberships, Pickleball is for the total beginners right through to seasoned players who already know their dinks from their smashes.

Dave also explained that it’s not just about Pickleball, what he and co-founder Dave Zacharia wanted to create was a lifestyle hub. 

“In the coming months we’ll be rolling out a lineup of events that bring together sport, movement, and socialising, starting with Pilates & Pickle in partnership with local studio Grace Movement, launching on November 28.”
