Since launching in June 2023, Alfie’s, New Lambton’s neighbourhood Italian wine bar, has won over locals with its infectious combination of good company and good times. 

Becoming a must-dine destination in 2023, the team at Alfie’s has some exciting news to share – they’re taking their love of food, wine and charm to the Hunter Valley.

Opening their second location at the stunning Leaves & Fishes in Lovedale, Alfie’s Hunter Valley will be inspired by the fresh flavours of Italy, whilst encompassing the same simple yet sophisticated share menus crafted by renowned head chef Rafael Tonon.

The menu will be formed by seasonal and locally sourced produce and will be a mix of both classic and contemporary Italian dishes including an extensive antipasti offering, primi courses, fresh homemade pasta, robust secondi dishes and dolce delights. 

Leaves & Fishes owners, Aaron and Kristy McGuigan, who took the reins of the property early in 2023, have spent the last 12 months settling in and treading softly into their new rainforest habitat, but are now ready to establish fresh growth from the strong roots planted by their predecessors. 

“We are thrilled to have Alfie’s join us at Leaves & Fishes, not only by bringing their beautiful fare to our waterfront location with their second restaurant, but also having the team cater our stunning weddings. 

“Their sharing style menu and locally sourced produce fits our ethos perfectly – bringing people together, creating experiences, sharing love and creating memories is what we’re all about and we look forward to our future together.” Kristy says. 

In addition, its new incarnation Alfie’s Catering will take up residence as food and beverage partner for weddings and events at Leaves & Fishes. Alfie’s Catering draws inspiration from Raf’s Italian and Brazilian heritage. 

Alfie’s and Alfie’s Catering is the creation of an innovative hospitality group who are also partners in fellow Newcastle venues, including The Criterion Hotel and Meet Restaurant, and will start as food and beverage partner in January 2024 with Alfie’s Hunter Valley to launch in the first half of 2024. 

Alfie’s co-owner Mitch Steel said, “We’re so excited to bring a piece of Alfie’s to the Hunter Valley. It’s always been our promise with Alfie’s to share good food, good wine and good times so it feels like a natural fit for us to settle in with our second location and take on weddings at the stunning Leaves & Fishes.”

Raf’s menu plan is to have something for everything — from an Italian feast and open fire BBQ to the classics such as alternate drop menu and seasonal canapes.
